You are a survivor of the City 17 Uprising. While the situation there is being brought back under Combine control, you are relocated to the far-away City 27. You are informed that you are a slave to the city, and that your life has no significance. But an unknown benefactor sees potential in you, and you are hand picked to serve a higher purpose. You are chosen to investigate a part of City 27 known as "Precinct: 04". This area of the city has been abandoned and cut off from the rest of City 27 for over three years.
