Standalone gameplay and style overhaul meant to challenge your dopamine receptors with half a hundred new opponents and cops interfering with missions taking place right in the races.

While original game oldskull style is preserved and enhanced, here's also:
Gameplay, modified for no-upgrade(APO) impartial difficulty, which modes from easiest to hardest makes both player and opponents harder.
Fufty new and modified original cars with their own stories inscribed in the general plot.
Some kind of cop system used in
New race tracks and
Missions, some of which lasts during regular races, also with allowed time gaining.
Edited textures, menus and interface, based on Razor's Beta mod.

Instructions: hardly needed, cuz after unpacking the game is ready to satisfy. You can set the screen size and gamma correction (0.7 is average) using nglide_config.exe

P.S.: I recommend you to pay attention to every little thing - there're gundreds of references in the mod.

I love how modders turn the game into actually less frustrating, almost fun experience.
This has shitton of interesting yank. Missions are less annoying. Thanks to Carmageddon 2's poor engine, it crashes quite often. In average you can do 2 missions in a row. I still do not understand wtf did you do to the APO system.

I'm glad to see the game has improved as I planned. About APO system... it's gone. Don't worry, opponents won't get too hard during the playthrough. There's still upgrade bonuses on maps, they just give you money. Perhaps I should add an alternative version with the standard APO system.

I'm in group 8 right now. One mission crashed 5x in a row at loading. I wonder if many complex custom cars are a no go for C2's engine or is there one specific one which causes this. Does the game produce any error logs? In Event viewer all I see is either ntdll.dll or CARMA2_HW.EXE was the "faulting module". But ofc I do remember from old days C2's engine being a total bitch even with 1 simple car added.
With APO I understood this much that you basically reversed the order: you start with full APO and lose the max cap as you progress. But it is still possible to collect blue envelopes to open slots and fill them with orange bits. I think you can leave it like that, that works too.
But what I miss the most is being annoyed by cops. Where did they go? Damn I wish to see the CU:NT from Reincarnation and Suppressor.

About the errors - honestly, I'm so inexperienced modder that I still find mistakes in TXTs, so it's generally good if all the races start. Also crashes can occur due to that the tracks aren't designed for a large number of racers. In any case, I think you should try the new version that just came out (I hope old savefiles will work fine with it).
I tried not so much to reverse the APO system as to block it to make the opponents be as strong as the player throughout the game.
What I know about cop system in C2 is that nobody made it happen yet. But I added different copcars in some suitable missions. CU:NT was sure a great idea, I saw Helomyname made a cop Smart Mini for C2, but never completed it

Oh ****, I think you're right. I was in group 7 actually. Now I'm in 8 after cursing a lot at the last mission. Races in group 8 have low chance to load. Even if I do load, a little bump into other car will make the game crash. Choosing certain complex design cars raises the crash chance. Like for e.g. the stalker truck. Too much info for poor C2's engine. I think there are way too many cars already in group 7. Need to pinpoint the sweet max and sadly just stop there. Maybe there actually is a need to reduce the amount so the C2's engine could handle the complex data. Up to group 6 the crashes weren't too bad.
What also annoys me is the garbling of minimap in group missions. Try not to squint your eyes trying to figure out for e.g. where the target peds are. Very annoying. But maybe I'm too picky?
About the cops. I had a collision of memories in my head. Well, the game does have "frozen cops" and "turbo cops" pups, which I sometimes get. But there are no cops. Those pups don't even work in the cop mission.
I remember from my childhood, when I played C2 at a friend's house. It was the DOS variant of C2. It had cops in it! Parked randomly just like in C1. They looked like the cops in C1 too. I never had the chance to finish that game, but friend said that in the end you get some train looking car which has infinite mortar. Idk if that was true.
I tried finding that version with cops in it. Nothing. Like it never existed. BUT there are the pups... Now, 2 decades later, I found out that there existed lots of "bootleg" variants of C2. Somebody was smart enough to mix in some extra stuff without causing any crashes. Maybe my friend got one of those instead.

Thanks for the helpful feedback. I distorted the mission maps to force the player to explore new areas on their own. Now I've added identification marks of the main objects to them and fixed some cars causing crashes. I also added an optional file that reduces the number of opponents in races.

Alright. The update by itself did not fix the failure to load races in group 8. Then I applied the opponent count limit. And I was finally back in the game. Also whatever you did in the update fixed what was crashing me so often as I could finish group 8, I mean all 3 races and the group mission, and start a group 9 race without a single crash or hiccups! You've done it!
I'll see later if the game can be finished.

Yep, you're right. Dunno what miracle it was in the morning that allowed me to go through whole group 8 without any crashes, in 1h, but group 9 was a shitfest again. I managed to complete 1 race, in 1h... I think there are still lot of bad cars that make the game crash.
That 8.8m dump truck appearing on the carrier made me **** my pants. Nice scare! :D
I've noticed one super annoyance: the STALKER is just too good. Everything else is either undrivable or too squishy. Ofc mayor fault is on the devs who made the maps too small and with bad roads so I can't gather much speed to waste an opponent in a duel. OR maybe I'm too picky and want just (too much) fun?
OR maybe I never see the top tier cars because the game crashes because of them. I dunno what I'm missing out.
I think this is where the super annoying APO comes in: give a chance to almost all cars to compete against heavy hitters. But the gathering the slots and filling them is so boring task. I liked C1's solution more. Also armor is needed in later groups since there's just so much that can kill you.
Oh **** there's still a lot of work to make C2 a fun experience. At least you're trying.
