Blood & Dye is a horror/survival project using UDK, set deep underground in the surreal world known as Pyathus. The mod follows the journey of a human military squad - The Fifth - as they, along with the rest of their nation's army attempt to escape their subterranean prison. With beasts and parasites on one side, and 'friendly' natives on the other, The Fifth will be forced to fight for life and limb in hope of escape.

Description

Railsword: A weapon composed of (A) a mounting/grounding rod which to which (B) a piezoelectric crystal-studded sharpened rail is attached.

The base premise is the use of piezoelectric (produces electricity when force is applied) crystals which can output enough to be physically damaging. These crystal are embedded within a low-quality (the high-energy exposure results in corrosion) mass-produced metal rail, which is then mounted to a grip/grounding rod combo as seen in the picture.

The purpose of the grounding rod is to reduce backfeed, and direct most of the energy towards the point of impact rather than the wielder. Metals such as wrought iron and nickle-silver are less conductive than steel or pure iron, which creates a 'path of least resistance' towards whatever object is struck, rather than the wielder. This, combine with metallic wire ran through the gloves and clothing create an effective grounding system, isolating the user from overt harm. In some designs, the blade (also called a rail) is attached via brackets or wires, while in other designs, it is mounted directly to the grounding rod. In either case, the rail is removable, such that it can be replaced once it becomes damaged or corroded.
