In the distant future a new moon has been discovered in the shadow of Heliph-57F. The discovery was not only made by humans, but an insectoid alien race called the Xenamorphs have also laid claim to the moon. The two races have battled for centuries and their weapons have grown to such tremendous power that they could destroy an entire planet. Both Human and Xeanamporphs decided to settle who gets control of the newly discouvered moon through a race. Each side would get 3 racers. The human vehicals made from metals and the alien vessels created from flesh. The Centre for Arts and Technology is proud to present Blackout. Blackout is the Centre's second game developed in class. Blackout is being developed by seven Game Art and Animation students under the name Wretched Sloth Productions, with the helpful guide of a technical lead and executive producer.

Pretty good, i took a little while to figure it out, i had to set my mouse and press n click team 2 join now, and then press m to change my car. Pretty good, gona see if theres ny servers tommorow.

yeah its a pretty decent racing mod for its first alpha release. just to tell u guys though, here are some of my complaints, these arent criticizims
1. the animations on the ships are confusing because they dont go well with the controls
2. the camera is annoying because the world looks like it is moving around to much
3. defualt hl2 buggy sounds
4. skybox issues

those are just some issues i found in the first few mins of playing. i know its an alpha, im just telling you.

Bug : Keybindings for team and vehicle menus appear on the options->keyboard menu, but appear to be hardcoded to N and M respectively.
Bug : I'm seeing dust particle systems coming from where the wheels on the HL2 buggy would be.

Suggestion : Make the edge sections of the roadway as modular static props, rather than (i'm guessing here) displacements, this will make it easier to get around some of the streached texture issues i'm seeing in this map.
Suggestion : Make the jet on the back of the blue ship additive and animated.
Suggestion : Place the camera closer to the vehicle, being closer to the road surface will increase the perception of speed, reduce the number of camera clipping issues and allow us to more greatly appreciate the details of your vehicle models.
Suggestion : Start the players off facing the direction they are supposed to go.
Suggestion : The road would appear to be very narrow for multiplayer racing, it was fine to look around solo or for timetrials, but ti doesnt seem wide enough for racing.
Suggestion : Add some spectator creatures to the map and generaly increase the dynamisim of the environment.

Question : No mouse steering?

I hope i'll be able to add my own custom racer to this mod when it comes out. Best of luck, looking forward to your next release.

ChromeAngel, there is no mouse steering as of yet. I'll see if I can find a way to do this or it could be something we implement once we have a lead programmer.

Nice work so far! I really hope for you that you find a coder, looks like it could become a great mod.

You shouldn't be so shy, btw. Many mods claimed they are total conversions, and they used lot's of HL2 stuff - you used nothing, as far as I can see. Well, I can hear the buggy sounds :P but that's about it.

Apart from some obvious bugs and things missing, I'd like to give mention this:

* the speed should be increased a lot, at least 2x as fast!
* the vehicle physics should become way more arcadish!
-> this should help the gameplay to become like the ones from great arcade racers. If you change the vehicle physics so that a crash between two opponents doesn't have big influences (no skidding) then the track is big enough, however right now, I agree with ChromeAngel, you'll have a hard time passing someone in multiplayer without touching him. Which is fine as long as this doesn't lead to big crashes...

* the "jumps"... shouldn't have an invisble brush below them! rather build them correctly so that if you drive fast enough, you can easily get over them.

Good work, I sure hope there will be more to see in the future!

Bug: Game acting as if the back key is constantly being pressed.
Bug: Teamswitch commands hardcoded
Bug: Skybox occasionally flickers

Suggestion: More responsive controls and ability to use joystick, they seem sluggish now.
Suggestion: Custom sounds are crucial to credibility.
