Yesterday 31/03/07 we conducted an Alpha test on BF40K : BF2 v0.695 with 6 players.

Thanks to SrM and IG8 clan players that attended.

We learned many lessons from the playtest test session last night.

Imperial Guard was dominating Tau, in both infantry and vehicle combat.

Testing Summary

  • Imperial infantry weapons were overpowered and far to accurate.
  • Leman Russ Tank was taking damage from an autocannon in the front armour (incorrect from the rules, should be invunerable when hit by that weapon in that location)
  • Leman Russ movement speed should be increased by 10%
  • Leman Russ new 1p view is good.
  • Chimera Multilaser barrel movement sound effect missing.
  • Chimera doesn't leave wake in water when driving through.
  • Tau infantry weapons proved to be to inaccurate (heavy disruptive recoil on most rifles) and felt underpowered.
  • Tau infantry armour stopping power was inadequate against the las weapons. (Both Firewarrior/Pathfinder & Stealth armour)
  • Tau vehicles seemed to slow in manouvarability & acceleration (speed boost helps but when unused the vehicle is to slow).
  • Tau vehicles are unable to drive through water, presently still lack Amphibeous capability.
  • Tau Photon Flash grenades proved very effective when they work :).
  • Hammerhead and Devilfish have large problems with bridges (Vehicle suddenly accelerates for no apparent reason crashes and burns from loss of control)
  • Hammerhead right Burst Cannon, looks malaligned from the 1p view when the barrel spins.
  • Piranha positions could be put back to 2 from 4(i.e. no one in the drones) Driver has control over drone fire which are horizontally locked to fire in one direction, but not vertically. Driver can use vehicles strafing & turning abilities to aim them. (For those who ask why its like this, we have no AI drone support in bf2).

Still a large amount of balancing to do in the mod over the next 2 months, many more playtests to come.
