Hello everyone,
it's been over two years since I posted an article. Wouldn't blame you for thinking this project is dead. I assure you it is not. Just has been in hibernation. You see I am a medical student. The last time I wrote here, I was a couple months from entering medical school and since I have completed my didactic and clinical years. These periods have been incredibly demanding and time consuming, and there are likely busier times to come when I graduate and become an intern in a couple of years. Right now though, I have the time and stamina to work and I am making progress.
I want to say that I have prioritized programming progress over writing articles. It takes a lot of time and effort to make good, reliable, and scalable code, and so lots of the work has been pretty boring stuff. Recreating the project with more readable code for potential collaboration, picking and learning a networking tool. I am only now getting to the real fun stuff and with that comes more motivation and drive to continue working.
One of my favorite bits of fun has been the inclusion of Space Graphics Toolkit and with it atmospheric effects, rings, asteroid fields, aurora borealis and lightning above planetary poles, stars, and galaxies, and many more possibilities that will bring Armada into the 2020s.
I may have some more updates and some surprises down the road so please be sure to follow the progress on the discord server for more specifics and timely information. That being said, I will try to stay up to date here.
I believe in you! This game was my childhood! I was a weird kid!
Hardly weird. I probably dumped more hours into Armada 2 in jr high/ high school than almost any other game.
So glad you are doing this! Thank you! Also good luck with your medical career!
