This mod upgrades Aquanox 2 in almost every regard and it is available for the english and german version. You get to see new playable ships, new enemies, improved balance, better graphics, fixed issues, improved balance and some more. This gives the game a final touch after 20 years.
INSTALLATION:
Copy all content of this mod into the Aquanox 2 main folder where the file "AN2.dat" is also located.
In order to play this mod correctly, you have to edit your video settings. Open the settings, click on
"choose preset", select any preset you want and apply your screen resolution afterwards if there is no correct preset.
NOT DOING SO WILL RESULT IN GRAPHICAL ISSUES. You can also manually edit your config file if you want.
This preset only sets everything to maximum and texture cache size to 1024mb because the default maximum value of 64mb is not enough.
If you want to uninstall the mod, just delete dat, gui, ini, map, sfx and vfx folders.
List of changes (not complete):
-Replaced Mighty Maggie with Nudimund, a fast and flexible new scout from the Clansunion
-Replaced Lacewing with Deathblow, a heavy and strong EnTrOx scout
-Replaced Deimos with Succubus - yes, the one and only - but with a improved model and textures
-Added Slider 4 as new enemy (Standard and pirate variant)
-Upscaled most textures by the factor of 4 with an AI program
-Weapon and ship stats are now displayed correctly in-game
-Range of Hitman "corrected" to 500m, added secondary mode and increased damage slightly
-Replaced Leech with Stanley II torpedo because Leech was useless anyway
-Added secondary fire mode to EMPactor: Higher fire rate, less range, more spread, less damage
-Modified Sizzler, increased range, added zoom mode and balanced damage and increased beam speed in secondary mode
-Altered Torpedo balance - It takes longer for enemies to react to torpedoes. A single cheap pirate can finally no longer dodge 8 Man-Eaters within 10 seconds and firing homing torpedoes from more than 30 meters distance now actually has a chance of success!
-Seriously increased seeker quality of Thresher and Tiger sharks
-Increased health values of many enemies that were previously made out of paper
-Fixed non-working bonus objectives
-Most item rewards have been moved around and balanced. Did you ever use XT Vendetta? Now you have a reason to do so.
-Generally improved usefulness of XT Modules: XT Doom Mortar can now, for example, oneshot PIR-Carnages with secondary fire and XT-Sizzler can now two-shot ATL-Argons or oneshot Torpedo towers..
-Big Bang 2 is now faster than Big Bang 1, but a lot more expensive and does less damage than before
-Torpedo engines are now much louder
-Added a few new sounds from "Archimedean Dynasty"
-Small other graphical improvements, for example slightly better explosions and debris
-Fixed a bug with the harvester, leading to the problem that passive seeking torpedoes were always aiming for the harvester
-Mission "Crawlers and Angels" can no longer be played stealthy because there is no crawler scout available to the player anymore
-Increased health of El Topos Asylum by 56% to make instant mission 8 winnable
-Decreased rewards dramatically - bonus objectives are now very important
-Many translation corrections
-Many balance fixes
KNOWN ISSUES:
-Slider 4 has no cockpit weakspot for Vendetta sniper
-Sizzler in zoom mode does not trigger weakspots like Vendetta sniper
-A few enemies in "defend Harvester" missions may act passively and may not attack
-If you dont set texture cache to at least 512MB you will get extreme graphical issues, you have been warned!
-Sometimes torpedoes with passive seeker fail to track any target if there has another torpedo been fired before by the player. This bug is caused by the game itself!
-On Windows 10 and above the Game is somewhat unstable and may crash here and there, especially in shops or when trying to switch resolution. This bug is not caused by my mod!!

Is there any chance of getting the Phobocaster (Queen Stregas ship in AN2) back to work? I can't get it to load, as it seems the game will only load .msb not .osd files. (I'm a noob doing this stuff. How do you open .osd or .msb files? Blender is not working.)

OSD files are ship definitions that can be edited with a simple text editor. In order to make the Phobocaster work you need to specify the phobocaster msb model file inside a playership osd file and there are many more things to edit, like ship name, camera position, collision, equipment, stats and so on. AquanoxRePak tool can extract AN1 and AN2. Then you can find the msb and osd files and even some different textures because Phobocaster was a playable ship in AN1 multiplayer. There is also a msb to obj converter tool and you can convert models to msh format (not msb) and then load modified msh files into the game. Aquanox has msb load priority, so if you want to load msh you need to use another name that doesnt exist yet or the game will just load the default model. Also converted msh files need manual reworking because the existing tools are all flawed. Getting my modified Succubus to work was not easy.

Unfortunately not. But this game is 20 years old, a couple more weeks dont hurt until you can try this mod yourself :)
