Ace of Nails is a deathmatch mod centered around combining balanced gameplay with Quake's fast-paced deathmatch action. AoN sports weapons ranging from the Spark Cannon to Rocket-Railgun Combo to the Li'l Ripper. The central theme being "Balance with imbalance", AON's gameplay is a wild fury and skill and strategy, where all weapons are good enough to kill, but the heiarchy of weapons ensures the player will desire some over others. Frikbot-X is proudly included in the mod, and it works with all the original Quake levels. Custom Map Rotation is also included, so you can set up a server with all your favorite community levels set in automatic rotation. AoN is now released. The railgun is a perfect straight-shot weapon that
will go through multiple targets. It can also kill
a player with a single shot unless he's got a
health bonus or armor.
This effect is actually done with the
sparklightning code. Quake is terribly limited in
what it can do for Railgun trails, but this code
serves well enough.
What's wrong with using a beam.mdl? Well I guess you couldn't make them transparent then....
BTW I think TomazQuake (and probably CheapHack) has a cool Railgun particle effect builtin with a new temporary entity effect. You might find info on it in TomazMod.
