Description

(The model is based on ROACHES AKA GAMINGROACH's F-2A)
The F-2A support aircraft is the Japan version of F-16. Featuring a larger wing area, new avionics including the first operational AESA radar, and new composite material structure. The fighter is more capable than F-16 in that it can carry more weapon load (8085 kg vs 7070 kg), fly further in combat missions (combat radius 833 km vs 530 km), accommodate more weapons (13 hardpoints vs 11 hardpoints), and can carryout naval strike missions using its primary weapon of 4 ASM-2 antiship missile, a missile capable of reaching 170+ km at 1150 km/h, carrying a warhead of 100 kg.
However, the fighter is limited to defensive missions, and thus lacks the critical offensive capabilities, including carrying anti-radiation missiles, anti-tank missiles, and long range land attack cruise missiles. Although in the recent upgrades, the fighter obtains a capability to use GPS guided JDAM bombs for precision strike, the JDAM can only be used against fixed targets, and has only a max range no greater than 28 km (often much shorter), the fighter's offensive capabilities against well defended land bases of opponents is still very questionable.
What's more, the high cost of the aircraft (127 million USD per aircraft compared to the latter F-16's 70 million) has seriously limited the number of the aircraft, thus further degrades the effectiveness of the Japan Air Self Defense Force.
