being a phillipino i would prefer the karis..
but here are the details:
keris - an indonesian/malaysian longsword which is notable for a curved blade. lighter and more mobile than the karis, and unlike the karis, the double-edged blade of the keris can only be used in stabbing, and not both stabbing and slashing as is with the karis. due to it's specialized role in stabbing, the tip of the keris is sharper than that of the karis.
karis - a phillipine longsword which is notable for a blade that is curved at the base and straight at the top. thicker (and heavier) than the keris, and unlike the keris, the Kalis's double-edged blade can be used for both cutting and thrusting. it's blade tip is more rounded than that of the keris, maybe due to it's less specialized role.
basicly,
keris - specialized stabbing blade, very light, smaller than the karis, more beautifully decorated and carved than the karis.
karis - multipurpose blade, heavy and durable, larger than the keris, less heavily decorated than the keris.

eh? why? the karis looks heavier and more durable than the keris.... but then again it will be a pain to carry...
But keris is more powerful than karis, and so i used keris in my dream to fight big monsters! AND I'M ALWAYS WON!!! HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!! *psychopathic?
but the karis is more powerful than the keris, but it is much heavier. therefore, karis is harder to use than keris... HAHAHA!!!
whenever i dream with this sword, i am always killing people randomly with this sword and drinking their blood! and by the end of the dream, everyone on earth except me is DEAD! HAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHA~!
and yeah, everyone is psychopathic! including you and me!
there is differences between keris and karis...... keris is dagger type weapon, perfect for silat while karis is machete type weapon which is for war mostly.....
