Dominions 4 is a brilliant game for anyone into TBS. Its full of wonderful lore and provides so much food for the imaginaion. I started playing Dominions 3 years ago. I didn't like it at first but after coming back to it just on a whim I was hooked. I think I expected to be able to control directly the battles, now I prefer the style of issuing commands and watching how things play out. It would be simply too much to be controlling upwards of 50 magicians, melee super-combatants and many formations in one battle. There is so much in this game, 70+ nations (excluding mods) and something like 1600+ units.

Here is an example of depth, units must be led by a commander to be able to move around the map. Commanders can use magic items and units can not. Commanders have magic item slots dependent on what they are, for example a human will have all slots available (head, armor, two hands, feet and miscellaneous) while a giant intelligent snake may ony have some slots available (head and miscellaneous). There is a spell to make any of the 1600+ units into a commander and when a turned into a commander it will have appropriate slots for magic items. Wow!

Lastly, Dominions 3 was continually patched over years with new nations added. That is great developer commitment to the game and they are saying they will do the same for Dominions 4.
