"could it be because that's exactly what it is? But wait! They have rocket launchers and... custom skins! If this wasn't a mod of an existing game that would be called plagiarism"
So I suppose any team-based first person shooter that pits two modern groups of soldiers/fighters can be called a Counter-Strike clone... even if that game came out before Counter-Strike!
PoA was created from scratch off of the Half-Life 2 engine. Its a completely seperate game. Just like how Rainbow Six is different from Counter-Strike, and Ghost Recon is different from Counter-Strike, PoA is also different from Counter-Strike. Can all those games be considered watered-down versions of CS? Sure, but they all play differently, and different people find different games fun.

"So having these elements isn't blending it?"
I didn't quite word that one the way I wanted to. I think its just the combination of elements that makes the game fun; it just seems 'right' to me. This pie isn't special because it has more than one ingredient, this pie is special because the combination of ingredients used makes it taste good.

"And 'more fun' hitboxes? That's not what determines damage..."
Nowhere in my comment did I mention hitboxes. I was talking about the game's damage model.

"And once most of your team dies doesn't that mean that you can't wn? "
Yes it does, which means that your team is forced to stick together and work together if the members of the team want to win.

"Unless of course your team just walks away from you, but that never happens."
If my team walks away from me, I follow. Most others who play the game seem to do the same. To not follow would be considered deliberately wandering off.
In CS, I feel no need to be with my team; I do well enough on my own, which means I frequently go in a different direction from my team. A lot of others who play CS seem to not mind being on their own as well.

"Silly me, why ever would I try to flank people in CS when it only works in strategic games like PoA."
Sure, flanking happens all the time in Counter-Strike. But its usually ends up being the result of a player happening to be just behind the enemy because of the direction he went at the start.
I can't really remember the last time I heard a teammate in Counter-Strike tell us to hold off the enemy while he came around behind them; it just happens occasionally, but is never planned in CS.

"Because by using common sense they've decided that a shotgun-blast to the torso won't kill, nor will an assault rifle, or smg, but a machinegun must kill in just a few milliseconds."
You're describing how the game isn't realistic, not how it isn't balanced. All of the weapons in the game can kill in less than a second, but they must be wielded by a skilled and intelligent player who is of the proper class to wield it with any effectiveness. You won't often see a Sniper holding off an entire enemy team with an MG and live to tell about it, nor will you often see a Gunner who is rushing with an SMG successfully reach his target.

I like the game, you don't. Thats fine, but I honestly don't think its necessary to go around telling people that it sucks and they shouldn't try it. Some people will like the game, some people won't, but I don't see any reason to discourage others from giving it a try.

The people who made this mod worked hard on it; its not easy to actually release a full-fledged total conversion mod. I think PoA has been a bit under-appreciated and it deserves better. Obviously some people will think differently, but thats no reason to stop them from deciding for themselves, is it?

It seems that a lot of people take one look at this mod and pass it off as a watered-down version of Counter-Strike. I think if you really give this mod a good hour or two in-game, you'll start to see how much fun it can be.

While at first glance, this game might seem like a CS clone, I truly believe its unique in its gameplay. Sure, we've all seen these features before: buy system, realistic weapons, classes, round-based tactical gameplay, attack/defend objectives, etc. etc., but what really makes this game unique is how it blends these elements into the gameplay experience.

So how exactly is it different from Counter-Strike? Well, the damage model in PoA is pretty different. Rather than taking the realistic approach, the PoA team aims to make the game more fun; it takes quite a few shots to bring someone down in this game. While its not necessarily realistic, at least you don't get shot randomly in the head at the beginning of a round; waiting 2 minutes in spectator mode for a round to end isn't all that fun if you ask me.

The gameplay is a lot more team-oriented as well. In Counter-Strike, you've got bombsites/hostages and whatnot, but people generally go straight for the kill in CS. Sure, if they have the bomb and they happen to be at the bombsite, they'll plant it, but for the most part CS doesn't really encourage sticking with the rest of your team; anyone with quick reflexes and good aim will do well on his own.
In Plan of Attack, there are 3 objectives on every map. You take turns with the other team attacking and defending; each round the attackers pick an objective and the defenders need to try and guess which one it is before it is attacked. The gameplay in PoA generally encourages you to stay with your team as its very hard to capture/defend an objective on your own. There is also a strategy system that helps guide your team to the objective. Unless you deliberately wander off, you seldom find yourself away from your team in this game.
The sense of team tactics you get from this game really is like no other. There are several tactics that play a big role in Plan of Attack. Flanking your enemy can turn the tides of battle, as can a delayed rush. Tactics and teamwork are two things you will find in abundance when you play Plan of Attack.

The weapons and classes are all well-balanced, and only add to the gameplay that PoA provides.

Obviously, Plan of Attack has its fair share of flaws; there are quite a few bugs, and some of the maps and textures could definitely use some touching up.
One thing that people forget about this game, however, is that it is UNFINISHED. Everything thats not good about this game is subject to improve in the future. New game modes will eventually be added. While Plan of Attack may be a fun game right now in its current state, it has the potential to be an excellent game in the future.

People are always welcome to come to the Official Plan of Attack Forums and post comments. If you're not a big fan of PoA and think it could use some improvements, you should definitely come visit the forums and post your thoughts on the game. The PoA Dev Team is always open to suggestions; they want to make the game better. You can visit the official PoA forums at Planofattackgame.com

This is a long comment, I know, so I'll go ahead and wrap it by saying this:
Plan of Attack is a very enjoyable experience. Give it a good couple hours, and you'll see that it has a lot more to offer than you would think; it is NOT 'just another CS clone'.

Wildfire788 - - 4 comments @ What do you feel is hurting the mod community the most?

What I feel hurts the mod community is the fact that not everyone appreciates each mod for what it is; instead everybody just takes a side and fights over which mod is better. (or otherwise just flat out bash mods they don't like for no reason)

Every mod brings something new and unique to the community, and we shouldn't bash other mods because we don't like them.

Play what you like and appreciate what each mod can bring to our community.
