Thanks,

I am really starting to like it as an option on bigger displays (say over 7"?). I think this GUI/User interface is well suited for RTS or SIM or really anything where you want a richer more complex interface. Phoenix USC for example is likely to take on a sim component and this style of interface is great for that. Plus it has the 'cool' factor. :D

Glad you liked it.

Hi,
I have some Html5 examples of the kinds of lighting and shadow FX being added to Phoenix USC posted on my website. I just received Monkey X's (programming language) mojo2 which is its new 2D engine.

Can't wait to include these effects in game. :)

If you are into IRC (international relay chat) I maintain a channel on irc.quakenet.org. The channel name is #phoenixusc and we hang out there most of the time. If you have any questions or just want to follow the day to day development of PUSC why not stop by and say hi. :)

If you have a copy of the Phoenix USC preview demo just type F9 and you will be automatically connected to the IRC channel through PUSC's in game IRC client.

Hi,
I should have the Linux build out in a few days. Saturday is the target (3/28/15). For now the Linux demo should be considered a tad experimental in that is difficult to predict what issues might occur across all the different Linux configurations. Generally though most should have no issues.

Hi,

The patch is almost done. I've decided to add 10% more zoom out on display as well as add a 'hide' feature to 'Global Chat' (IRC Chat) that will let you stay in session will it's hidden. I'm also adjusting player ships weapons with a little more fire power.

Up soon.

^You got it.

I am about to release the Linux build and after I do I will start on the Mac OS X build. I will need to acquire some Mac hardware to compile and test on first. Donation anyone? :)

Hi,

A video card performance benchmark comparison of Phoenix USC on many Radeon cards here at Game Debate.
Game-debate.com Universe of Space Combat

Phoenix does amazingly well and is designed to run on mobile devices with their meager video hardware. Even though the site list DX9 Phoenix supports DX 10-11.

Hi,

Just a tad behind switching between working on the Linux build and AI improvements. I have a Linux build running but I'm having some issues with keyboard and mouse inputs. As soon as I solve that issue I will post a Linux build.

I should have AI improvements for the demo up here soon.

I'm at this very moment trying to compile a Linux Build. It compiles and runs fine aside from a device input issue (mouse, keyboard). It will be up here shortly (as soon as I find a solution). As soon as the Linux build is done I will move on to Mac.

Just curious as to which you needed. Mac or Linux?

Hi,

Did you know there are three different backgrounds you can choose from in the demo, High Detail, Star Field and Tiled. If you hit the F1 key for the settings interface, then select the 'Detail' tab you will see a button called 'High Detail Background'. Click on it to cycle through the available demo backgrounds.

This has come up in global chat (in game IRC chat) which is great if you have any questions about the demo.

Hi,
I am moving on (really back to) to server development. I should have images and video of online play over the next few weeks. You can also check out the server listing page:
Phoenixusc.com

I am also working on a Linux build of the demo. I may try to improve the AI but Phoenix USC is a player v. player game, so it's not a high priority at the moment. The focus now is online play. ;)

I hope you enjoy the demo.

I will look into 'Steam' perhaps at some point. I really do not know much about the submissions process and if this style of game is a good fit. But I will look into it. ;)

Hi,

Yes, no problem. :) I am experimenting with different effects and colors. In fact I can let each weapon have it's own shield impact effect in any color which is cool.

I'm also looking into directional shield impact effects so the shields indicate the section of the ship that has been hit. Also very good for tracking weapons impact.

Hi,

I think there might be, it's something my beta team and I are discussing now. I like the Idea of three to four factions being established to join on signup. I will keep you posted on what I decide but factions are looking possible and can fit in well with a style of league play.

Thanks for tracking Phoenix USC. :D

@ liamdawe

Thanks. :D

Linux support is on the way. I will be going with a headless Linux server so I will be compiling for Linux very soon. In fact Linux support for me is a must! As it is the last open development OS/Kernel we have left.

I have already done a test compile on Debian 64bit and all running fine so look for a Linux client soon after the Windows client.
