I am currently working the tank game a multiplayer two stick shooter
Hi sorry for the late reply. What happens when you try to run the trial? Do you have XNA 4.0 installed?
I haven't had much time to work on the game lately but I'll try to do some testing on the current build and release an update within the next week or two!
So far I haven't yet been able to recreate your crash I'm afraid . In your video it showed that you were able to connect twice in a row and it crashed on the 3rd attempt. Do you get any sort of crash in the game itself or only when connecting?
Thanks I'll try and get around to tracking it down. Also out of interest, was this when attempting to play the CO-OP levels or just a normal multiplayer game with bots. Also was this on LAN?
Hi there, sorry to hear your having issues with the game! do the crashes seem to be caused by something specific or occur only when playing a certain mode?
Thank you for the link by the way this looks like a good idea.
Odd are they both the same version number? The latest version released at the moment is still 0.9.7.6.
Yup, I want to switch from XNA to MonoGame at some point in which case I will definitely try and support a Linux version! I'm afraid I couldn't really give much of a time frame though as I'm only working on the game in free time so development can be quite stop and start.
Hi there! sorry for the late reply, I don’t think I get any indication when someone comments on this page. Yeah you’re right the game is tile based but it only uses A* for the AI driving the tanks about. the missiles actually have a much simpler method where they just alter their velocity to move towards a specific target.
The homing missiles target the nearest enemy tank which is
1.within a certain radius
2.within line of sight of the missile
A formula along the lines of my_velocity += vector2.normalise(targets_position- my_position)*const is then used to alter their velocity in order to move towards the target. Note that this isn't really doing any kind of pathfinding the missiles don’t move about obstacles in order to reach their targets. If you remove point 2 above the missiles would simply fly into walls when trying to home in on tanks on the other side.
You can't put links in a game's summary I'm afraid so I put the greenlight page under the official page for now. Hope you enjoy the game!
Cheers! good luck to you too.
Ah yes sorry about that. I hope to put out another patch next week I'll update the map and fix it in that.
Hmm okay thanks, Ill try and see if I can recreate that bug I haven't encountered it before.
Yes you’re correct the game currently only has X-Input support I'm afraid since it was made in XNA. You might have luck using your ps2 pad with an xbox 360 controller emulator. Something like Code.google.com I haven’t ever tried this myself though (I am the only dev by the way).
I hope to at some point change from using XNA to MonoGame which means a Linux version is definitely a possibility. I can’t really guarantee this would be anytime to soon though.
The main differences between the demo and the full version are that you get access to the full set of missions, arena stages and coop stages (about 30 of each). You also get access to the level editor and network play.
When you tried to rebind the controls earlier was it with your ps2 pad and did the game freeze up completely?
Thanks again for checking out the game!!
Cheers ^ ^
It does but I am afraid the player base is currently very small so you are unlikely to encounter other players online. Local or LAN multiplayer is your best bet at this point in time. Something to keep in mind, hope this helps.
oops I didn't notice the sale was about to end, I intended it to run for most if not all of the time up until release its back on now :)
Hi there, in your list of games within the Desura client does it say "The Tank Game Demo" rather than "The Tank Game Alpha"? If so try right clicking on the game and setting the version to Alpha. Hope this works! please tell me if it doesn't fix the problem.
Here's a short list of some things I hope to work into future updates.
Some kind of online master server so players can find and join each other’s games online.
Make arena co-op mode playable over LAN/online.
Include more types of environmental objects other than just doors, switches and teleporters.
A new set of co-op levels focused on joint puzzle solving rather than just straight death match.
Alter the existing single player and co-op modes to have a more gradual difficulty curve.
New game modes, round based elimination for example.
Add in more stages for the existing single player and co-op modes.
Hi I'm afraid currently the game only natively supports xbox 360 pads. However you can try using an emulator such as Code.google.com to take the input of your non xbox controller and make it look like a 360 pad so you can use it to then play the game. I'm afraid I don't know if this process will work with a wiimote however...
Hope this helps. Yes Wii tanks was one of the very early inspirations by the way :)
Ah okay, I don't want the game to be far to easy I would rather it be challenging than boring, but there is quite a bit to figure out stating. I don't have much time to work on the game during the week but I will try and get co-op over network. You should be able host a lan game and play on the same team vs some bots as a cheap co-op substitute.
To answer your questions.
If you preorder you get the full alpha version with all the content currently in the game (40+ maps total, 30 missions, 20 sp arenas, 30 co-op arenas, level editor, lan / online play etc). You will also get all the updates to the alpha (which hopefully I will be able to release fairly regularly) and of course the full game when it is finally released.
I would love the game to be accepted on steam and I will definitely try to get it onto there. However in the end Valve are the ones who decide what games they do or do not put on there. All I can really do is try to make a good game
The game has only been out here on Desura for a few days so the player base is currently extremely extremely small I'm afraid. I really hope it grows to where there are always a few people to play online with as I think multiplayer is the game's strongest point. It is not there yet however.
I hope to add in many more maps, missions, some new modes and better features even before the full game is released. That said I will also do my best to keep supporting the game after release.
Thank you for trying the game, I'm glad you like it.
Hi there thanks for the feedback! Yes unfortunately all the play testing that went into the tank game was just among a small group of friends. Since we have been playing the game for over a year now we don't really have an idea of how difficult the game is for a new player any more (as you and others have stated the game is probably far too difficult starting out) . I will try to pm you a link to a build where I have lowered the difficulty in a minute if you want to try that out.
About using non Xbox controllers the game is made using XNA which doesn't include support for them natively but there is still definitely a possibility of having them supported. What non xbox controller did you want to try and use? Also yes I definitely want to make co-op playable via lan/online in a future update.
Hi If it is a copy I can assure you it is an unintentional one this is the first time I have heard of babo violent. However going briefly off a few videos(I'm currently at work so cant play) the gameplay seems very different. I may be completely wrong but it looks like in babo you select a couple of guns to start with when you spawn and the only items to pick up on the map are guns and health dropped by players when they die. In tank game weapons/items must be picked up from across the map and so collecting and controlling the important items is a big factor in success. Also you can see the entire map, player locations and what items/weapon ammo other players are holding at all times. Deciding on what action to take based off what combination of items/weapons you have vs what your opponent has is another big part of the game which seems to be different.
Hey thanks for the watch :)
Sup thank you for tracking The Tank Game! :)
Thank you for being one of the 1st people to follow my game!
Hey thank you for being one of my 1st followers for the tank game :)
