Personally I have... maybe... more than 100 unfinished projects. But they are all frozen in my VHE maps folder archived or not archived. I do wander if I should return to some of my old projects and finish them. But that will be somewhere in the future. Or it may never happen.
But my advice is- keep all of you projects, so you can return to them later, and/or to remember how good were you at mapping when you were a noob.
Hmmm... I remembered my firs big success. I should really return to it, and modify it.
Never get rid of your projects!

I would say: Never lose the mentality of great Work you've done, but going "literally" back, modify and change this "greatness" for newer Ideas can't be done for good over a long time (for once it's a helping hand, i agree).
Rediscover past Ideas to use: A bad thing to do. Rediscover Experience to count on could be more productive. If that is what you meant, never mind ; )
But, there have to be some principles to stick on. Always process a "new eye" on Work like yours (or mine), not an old. Always depart from the past as finding something related to develop senses, life and personality , unless the past can have a strong influence. That are some short thought advices, depending on your descirption of project keeping.
And why i'am posting this on this Blog? I guess i'am looking for substition... and i hope you don't mind some opinion on yours
