I cannot determine whether it is a specific action I do which causes the crash. It always happens after at least one CPU player is defeated (I usually play 4 player skirmish) and almost always after an hour or more of gameplay. I never get crashes early in the game, and I do not think I have gotten any before at least one enemy is defeated.

Unrelated issue: Since 4.02 has come out, whenever there are spell effects on screen (e.g.: Sauron's dark mist attack, Saruman's fireball, Spellbook flood spell), many black squares appear on my screen and black it out until the spell effect animation has finished. I did not have this problem with 4.0 or 4.01.

I am running the game on a high-end PC with Windows 7. Plenty of memory, processing power, etc. Graphics card is an nVidia geforce gtx 880M.

So many CTDs. Can't play the game; it always crashes before I can finish a match.

I went through the update screen on the launcher twice. I think I'm on 4.01. I'll check just in case.

AI isn't hard to beat. That's not what I'm having trouble with. I just like to use a boom-heavy play style so I can use all of a faction's upgraded units. I don't play to win, really, but to use the more elite units/spells/upgrades, so it's annoying when the AI blatantly cheats like that and keeps me from reaching late game. The problem is if I just crush the AI in the beginning it takes them forever to rebuild and become a challenge again. If I wanted a challenge I'd play online against humans. Ah well, I'll deal with it.

My game is crashing to desktop almost every time I play if the game goes longer than an hour. The computer players also cheat like crazy - they seem to have many if not all abilities unlocked at the beginning of a match and their heroes seem stronger than mine. Create-a-heroes also feel weak compared to standard heroes. If I take the points to max out a stat, it should reflect in the hero's strength for that particular stat.

Late game Isengard is the scariest faction at the moment in my opinion. Level 5 units with even stronger heavy armor, forged blades, and xbow bolts. Plus if you get the special fort building that grants the armor/weapon boosts, it also gives an insane amount of resources. Wargs are kind of crap compared to other cav, but other than that Isengard is pretty strong.

SERIOUS PROBLEM: Every time I play against Isengard, it starts out with all of its special abilities unlocked and somehow builds all of its heroes right at the beginning of the game. Something is wrong with its progression. I am playing against the CPU on hard.

I've encountered a problem: I was playing on the Iron Hills map as Rohan against Isengard. Somehow, Isengard had access to all of its abilities from the start of the map. It also somehow built all of its heroes from the fortress within five minutes of the start of the match. Needless to say, I got stomped... what is causing Isengard to start out in such a powerful position? I put the difficulty on hard, but I've never seen a hard cpu play like that.

The mod is loads of fun. I can't wait to see the full release of 4.0. I really must say well done Edain Team. It was worth waiting three years for this release. I think the full version will be even better. I've had only one crash so far. Other than that the mod seems to be running fine.

I'm sick of waiting for this mod to come out, but I have to say the "weekly" (monthly) updates are really sharp and well-put-together. The aesthetic achieved for Lothlorien by the mod team looks better than any other version I've seen (taking RotWK and several mods into account). I can't wait to play version 4.0; it looks like it will be nothing short of amazing.

We thought that eighteen months ago. I think the problem is they keep adding features, especially with the recent Hobbit films. I figure they must be done or close to done with the translation now, but new things keep getting added on. And I hear they have to do university too. It just feels like we get close to a release and then something else gets added on and the release is delayed.

I've followed this mod for two years. I'm still waiting for v4.0. I hope to at least see an update since the team said they would be finishing with examinations in August.

v4.0 will include the (first) English translation for the mod. Till then, it's good old Deutsch only.

Stupid? How so? I realize that their announcement includes (potentially) the whole year. "Close" is a relative term. And by the way, whenever you say "I don't mean to be offensive/racist/insulting etc." or "no offense" all you're doing is preparing to be or do exactly what you're saying you do not want to be or do. I didn't take offense but you should know that's what those phrases imply when you use them.

I honestly need to stop checking this site. I've held true to my word and have not played LoTR since I discovered this mod over a year ago, wanting my first experience with it to be fresh but also to be in English. Now that we're so close, it's reminded me how long it's been since I've played the game.

Man, I can already tell what's going to happen. My winter break is going to end and I'll be back to work again. Then v4.0 will come out.

Pretty sure that's not the plan they outlined above. I didn't like the restrictions either but I'm willing to give them a chance.

It's sad but true. The devs' silence is a necessary evil. Still, some hints/updates now and again would really go a long way towards reassuring some of us who have been following the mod for years in hopes of news.

No news. Patience is the go-to virtue for fans of the Edain team's mod. Learn to like it, otherwise you won't get far here.

I feel split because on the one hand I decided to wait for the English translation before playing this mod and waiting's a bitch. On the other hand I briefly considered what it would be like translating Tolkien's three books into another language and I better understand why it is taking so long for a translation to appear.

So there are no more official translators affiliated with the mod? That news is not exactly comforting.

Also yes, RJ's mod is probably dead. The head of the team was dealing with some relatively serious health problems last I heard, which is a real shame for more reasons than one.

Any idea if the mod team could pin some sort of FAQ documentation on this page? If so, it'd hopefully prevent a lot of future repetition (I have a feeling people are going to keep asking this question, probably even after the translation is released).

I can't say I like that the English sounds will be missing in the translation, but I can say this:

If I had to pick one language in place of English for the LotR trilogy, it would be German. It's at least apropiate to the iron age setting and fits better than most other languages.

Gnomi, a few posts back you answered some questions. This was one of them:

" Will the voices of the units be translated in the English version?"
No.

I have a followup question: Why can't the team just implement the voices from the English version of the game/movies?

Makes sense though. They're from the wild of the North, not bred in the uruk pits by Saruman. ((If that's indeed where they came from in the trilogy. I based my guesses off the movies.)

Gandalf would be Mithrandir to most Gondorians, meaning "Grey Pilgrim/Wanderer," and reflecting that he has no definitive ties to Gondor. Aragorn was a Ranger in the North for the first 80 or so years of his life. He had tried to forget Gondor up until the War of the Ring, which somewhat forced him into claiming his heritage. Even then, he first appeared as Strider, not as Aragorn II Elessar. Following this thought process, I can see why the Edain team made him accessible through the inn system instead of via a castle.

Gameplay-wise, neither hero's conditions is ideal, but it's not terribly hard to rush an inn or let an enemy take an ally's inn, and it's a worthwhile sacrifice of accessability for being able to incorporate authenticity into gameplay.

They're working on an English translation. They don't know when they'll be done, but hopefully it'll be soon. In the meantime a lot of (non-German) players have just played the German version. Most of them say it's just as good as if the game were translated. I chose to wait, but the language barrier isn't as difficult here as it normally might be.
