" Counter-terriost and terriost based? wtf? this is doom3, a monster game"

This is a modification, you realise. Many mods differ greatly from the engine that drives them. Look at Counter-Strike; what has round-based counter-terrorism got to do with aliens warping onto Earth? Nothing, but CS is still immensely popular regardless of how similar it is to Half-Life. Sure, it helps to make a mod similar so you can reuse textures and sounds, but that doesn't mean mod developers should restrict their design and imagination.

Anyway, hope you like the mod when it comes out :)

Hmm, that should say Forums.optd-mod.net without the exclamation mark, my bad >.<

It's been a hectic few months. We've got hosting from planetDOOM now (http://www.planetdoom.com), but we couldn't get our CGI site running there. We really didn't want to pass up the opportunity of being hosted by pD so we decided to rewrite the site using php. It shouldn't be too much longer now :)

We've also got the forums up and running, you can check them out at Forums.optd-mod.net!

Thanks to everyone for your patience, we've had our fair share of technical difficulties over the last year as you know and we hope you can hang in there with us till things settle down and return to normal.

The site is up at the moment, but it is only temporary hosting until we can find a permanent site. All aspects (excluding the incomplete forums) are accessible and functional, so feel free to drop by Optd-mod.net whenever you want ;)

I apologise for the very dormant state of the website and the mod over the past two or so months. We've experienced a range of obstacles that have caused delays in the mod's development, the largest of which were the major server downtime and the server being wiped. Team morale dropped a bit and progress has slowed, but we are confident that once the server is back up we will be able to resume progress on the mod and keep you up to date on everything that's happening. Thanks for your patience!

We've got hosting from our friends at ActionRealm.com, now we're just doing some final tweaking to get the v2.0 site ready for debut ;) Expect a few things to come with the site's release :)

Since the site is down at the moment (and hosting/uploading is still under way), I've decided to upload all the images to the image gallery given generously to us by moddb.com. Feel free to peruse the gallery any time you wish ;)

By 1.5Ghz, I meant that the other specs were fairly equal in terms of power and speed. I'm currently running on an Athlon 1800 XP+, 512mb of DDRAM and a GeForce 4 Ti 4400 (128mb). If you are basing your comments on the leaked Doom III Alpha, I would quote John Carmack and say that its ill-advised to judge, seeing that it was completely un-optimised. The final product will run far better on most computers.

Indeed it is a bold move, but what we are doing is not completely daring and a risk. The majority of the progress we are making is concept and design, rather than actual production of the mod. Obviously, areas such as coding and mapping will have to be left until the SDK is released with the game, as I've stated earlier. The concept and design work we've completed now won't go to waste. We'd like to have a head start for when the game and SDK are released :)

Hehe, by the time Doom III is out and fully optimised it should run on most decent computers (1.5Ghz and above, that is) fairly acceptably. I'm saving up now for an upgrade, I think its well worth it for the mind-blowing graphics that id Software have conjured up. =)

Yah, as I said in the news post, all three screens are concept art, basically rough blueprints for when we create the real menus, and as with all concept art, are 'fake' or non-interactive. Thanks for the comments :)

Yeah, we're basically going to start with the Q3 source and see what AI we can edit from there, and hopefully come up with something that can port across to Doom III. I've read a few times that the AI in Doom III won't be anything special, so its probably best to start fresh and port it across when the time is right.

We'll have the weapon skin soon, that's a 3DSM rendering :) Luckily Doom III is so sexylicious it can cater for large poly counts with weapons ^_^

Jeez... I just realised the typo... it should read "CT-themed background", not "CS-themed background". If you read the FAQ you'll see that OpTD is in no way a Counter-Strike ripoff. =)

Well, we are awaiting the SDK that will be released with Doom III retail version, so progress is restricted a bit by that. However, we can still create models, textures, sounds, and map designs before the game is released. Expect a short wait after Doom III for OpTD to be released. :)
