I'm Stalyn on most online games. I got to here by discovering the wonderful Amnesia Mod area. My avatar is Hubert from Tales of Graces. He's a wonderful example of what I'd love to be but am too lazy to be, a man who attains his strength through pure training. I can at least be kind of like that when I'm determined of something. I'm here to help with what I can.

That really depends on the jumpscare. 'Teleporting naked guys' really do not make any sense storywise and break the reality built up by the atmosphere. If it's something along the lines of a cabinet full of bones or something else that may be relative to the story whilst setting an atmosphere, I consider it a great jumpscare. The real scares should come from the monsters (They, after all, are capable of killing you). And no, by that I don't mean put in more poofers.

Luckily everything could have gone a lot worse and didnt actually go worse.

Hello, good sir. Last time I played Amnesia was a few months back, at the beginning of summer or earlier. The last mod I played was this very mod. Yes, this mod, was the mod that put fear into me. True fear. It ended my long stream of Amnesia Custom Stories.

Played it over several days and it was just pure torture sneaking up to the top of the light house, back down and then back to the top again. I mean, good god. That was just horror. No jump scares, either. I liked the story. Also, that whole scene and feel underneath the house.. all those mannequins 'gathering' around the lighthouse, almost like lost souls.

Whenever I got stuck on some parts, I watched Cry play, and that was also my introduction to him (which I thank you for). Now, I wait for A Machine for Pigs, and I hope to see your face amongst the various modders playing with the new toys and *shudder* deformed pig monstrosities.

Hey! I mentioned before that I got stuck behind a pillar in the Brass Bull room after hiding from a monster. Well after playing Deterioration and switching back to this full conversion, I noticed that my save was still there. So I continued from there and, as expected, I was still behind the pillar. So I tried a little bit more to say 'I tried', and I actually wormed my way out! Time to continue my quest :)

Also, can't find the metal key used to open the desk in the beginning. I saw one guy's walkthrough of it, the guy who had that other kid accompanying him, but I just can't see where he got it.
And last night I was in the Study, and I could select this row of books without 'Just a bunch of books' text coming up, but it wouldnt move. So I tried a good tug and essentially they exploded crashing my game. lol
I'll try again from the beginning and maybe I'll find the metal key this time.

Alright, it works. SO HERE'S A RECAP

The problem is you aren't supposed to take the contents of Deterioration as I expected. You're supposed to actually just copy all the contents of the Deterioration RAR as is, and copy into the amnesia folder and then run the .bat.

Stalyn Jul 1 2012, 8:42pm replied:

Alright, I'm getting the same problem now. So you don't have anything wrong, I think.

UPDATE: Hey, if you follow the file path you can see that it says where the file you need it is - ok, just put the .bat into the folder 'Config' and the file is there, so that should fix it.

UPDATE2: My guess now after going through this is that you need to copy the entire Deterioration folder, not take the contents and paste them over the regular Amnesia files. Trying this now..

Did you install it the right way? Remember that you have to extract it to the folder that has amnesiaTDD.exe.
That's all I could think it could be.

Hey, while I try out Deterioration, can anyone tell me if this mod is jumpscary? From the way it sounds, it's not, but it's always nice to know.

P.S. Breakable boxes and barrels? IT'S ABOUT TIME! Now I can dole out some punishment to traitorous barrels.

So now I was jailed and met with the douchebag Thomas and have the Calamine, Aqua Regia, Jar, Poisonous Plant, etc
And a monster spawned near the brass bull room - instincts go, yeah, let's rush into the Brass Bull room and hide.
And I jumped behind one of the square pillars near the back and the monster despawned moments later.

So uhh... yeah. Time to leave.

I'm stuck with no way to get out so if I want to continue the story I have to start from the very beginning.

Guess that's what I get for ******* up Thomas's chair configuration in the Iron Maiden room.

However to add to my previous review, I love the way how Gary moves in 'cutscenes' (or whatever you want to call the parts where you can't move), like how he was teeming with rage and was hitting the door when he was in the jail cell talking to Thomas.
Also just the general way you go about in cutscenes is awesome. Like the flashbacks of whatshisname, whose status is pretty much just 'MIA'. That ****'s cool. Keep doin that man.

So far this game proves it earned that 9.9 rating. Just entered the 'Old Storage' room (about 15s of running past the doublelocked door, then I quit cause got to here in one session) and man, this mod has great map design, puzzles, and scares. Most creative jumpscare-like thing I've seen in any mod yet, the room with the two statues in the corner. Man, the way that one statue's face moved - I thought it was a statue, not a gray monstrosity. That was a straight up creepy kind of scary, that wasn't totally 'jump out of my pants' startling (I wouldn't call myself the most easily scared person but I definitely get the feeling when I hear that terror meter), and yet it left a creepy feeling to linger in my mind while I process what just happened. Voice acting's great, story's great, and everything comes together nicely. You don't need jumpscares to set in fear/creepiness (of course some things are borderline jumpscare, like finding a guy in a closet, but it's not like he jumps out at you or anything). I adore this and hope you come out with more maps or perhaps further installations in a 'Gary' series. This COULD count as just being the review, but not many people look through those anyway. This was my first Gary map and Snowy Secrets sounds promising so I'll probably get to playing that map sometime after I finish Dark Secrets.

10/10 from me man. Keep up the good work.

1. PewDiePie is a great guy who makes good videos.
2. Jumpscares are bad and do not instill real 'fear' in people. Real 'fear' is atmosphere, encounters (no poofers), good music, a creep factor, and the mysteries of the unknown.

These are some things people can agree on.

Got no idea how to get past the first room, I can see you can flip the switch to go upside down but there's nothing I can do outside of there. Once I go into the bigger room I can't get back up to flip the switch and there's nothing to do in the big room.

The picture for this mod doesn't do it justice. It is a pretty good mod, about 1-2 hours of playtime. About a guy (named Vincent) who had an affair while he was in a marriage with a girl named Jennifer - The 2 girls were Precious, a stripper, and Catherine (Vincent and Catherine.. hmmmm), a red haired chick. Anyway it has a few cheap scares but the story makes up for it.

The first time I played, I ended up not knowing where to go (I had to go in the left hallway that I forgot about) and I easily broke into the room on the right (the one blocked by the bed) by spamming click + right click. Just if you wanna find a way to fix that. Maybe make the door locked and just have a key lying on the ground next to the door? Well, now I can at least go back to that map and get to the fun part quickly!
