Let me preface this by saying that I've tried everything I can to get rid of them. I tried five different source-port versions. 2.00.05, 3.1.0, 2.3.2, Zandronum 3.0 Alpha, and Zandronum 2.1.0 Most wouldn't even launch, but the ones that did, NOTHING got rid of them. I tried all difficulties with the No Quake option, nothing. I tried messing with Project Brutality settings, nothing. I did everything I could short of manually removing them from the mod with whatever is used to make Doom Mods. I like the idea of having them in, but their implementation makes them kill the WAD harder than a Terry Trap. The Eviscerators show up at level 3, and I went from 100 health 71 armor, to dead in two hits. They seemingly have as much, or more health than Cacodemons, and can generally **** right off. At one point there was this single enemy in a room, I found a super-sphere, had armor, was golden; blew me up a second after opening the door, threw down like four pipe-bombs in rapid succession. I am playing hardest difficulty, but not even Barons of Hell or Cacodemons hit this hard.

The Zombies replace all the imps, zombiemen, and Zombie scentists with awful obnoxious hordes. I loved Fearrific 4 for the diversity of enemies it had, and all the awesome weapons we had to deal with them; fighting the increasingly more powerful variants of enemies was fun; what's NOT fun is going onto map 3 of Tier 1 Maps of Chaos and finding 655 enemies, 95% of which are those ******* noisy awful zombie hordes. They make playing most WADs nigh impossible. Scythe for example, it has compact maps, tight fighting spaces, and conservative item placement; it's a tense fight on Fearrific 4, but on 5? Start out on map 1, 82 enemies! The map is extremely small, so I get swarmed and killed in seconds. Scythe necessitates playing smart, and being frugal; that goes out the window when dealing with dozens if not hundreds of zombies.

The Quake enemies are abysmally unbalanced, and replace most of the awesome Doom Monsters. The ones that made me fall in love with Project Brutality and Fearrific Doom 4. It's like replacing Pyramid Head with Robbie Rotten in Silent Hill 2! What I'd seen of Fearrific 5 was nothing short of sublime, I'd even say not even Brutal Doom 21, or PB3 could top it; but the Quake enemies kill it, and nothing I do gets rid of them. They seriously need revamping, namely, NO MORE HORDES! And no more of them replacing most Doom enemies.

Call me a whiny twat if you want, but I spent eight hours trying to get Fearrific's No Quake option to work; I even downloaded Zandronum for the first time just to try and see if it'll work. I loved what I saw of Fearrific 5 that much, and I'm that much of a fan of Fearrific Doom. But the Quake Enemies kill it, desecrate its corpse, burn it to ashes, and use them to bake a cake. Absolute highest I'll give it is a 6/10. If the No Quake option worked, it'd definitely be a 10/10. I'm not averse to having them in the game, I liked the idea at first; but they need massive revamping. Rebalanced, no more hordes of zombies replacing everything, and no more hordes of zombies period.

Right, having played Fearrific 5 for a while, I figured I'd share my thoughts, I'd do this in a review, but you can't do that for Add-ons for some stupid reason. Let's see here: First and foremost, the new sounds are fantastic, I particularly love the new Doom Marine sounds, the sound effect it has makes him sound like he is actually talking through a helmet. The new textures are the best I'd seen in a Doom WAD as well; it really shows that you put a massive amount of effort into them, and the sound effects. The satchel charges and pipe-bombs were a delightful addition to our arsenal, and gave the way for more explosives; I honestly despise the Rocket Launcher, so they were welcome. Though I do feel the throwing range is pathetic.

The fact that you could actually find survivors was awesome, I at one point found a chaingunner and me and him kicked *** together throughout Map 4. I found a female marine and saw her get torn in half by a Hellknight, who I in turn disemboweled, then chainsawed as he tried to hold in his entrails. Didn't get to the test the Power Armor, couldn't find it, map was too small. Everything had significantly improved from Fearrific 4, a mod I already considered to be the pinnacle of Project Brutality. Really I was slated to give this a perfect 10, and prattle on about how it's miles better than Brutal Doom itself, and not even Project Brutality 3 could top it; or hope to top it. So why ain't I? The ******* Quake enemies.

I do have to ask though, is there any way to reduce the numbers of the zombies, or outright remove them? Hordes are one thing, but this is inane. I'm running Maps of Chaos because I love the expansion it has, and the numbers increase; but fighting millions of zombies simply isn't fun, especially when they hit so hard, and replace or are supported by big-*** overpowered enemies. The No Quake Option seemingly does nothing as well. When I select it, it just tells me it doesn't accept console commands from scripts, and has them there anyway.

I just updated GZdoom to the absolute latest version, yet every time I try to run this, it gives me the following error:

Script error, "1. PrBru2.pk3:cyberdemon.txt" line 14:
Expected ',', got '0.6'.

Fearrific 4 worked fine on an outdated version, I forget which; but neither will work with Feariffic 5.

Edit: It now launches with 2.3.2, yay! So far so good, please disregard this; I am terribly sorry.

GZDoom's gotten numerous updates the past while, it's now on 2.1, try downloading the newest version and see if that works. If that doesn't work, try Zandronum.

Try this one: It's been updated today to support V20: Moddb.com Worked like a charm on v19, haven't tried it yet on v20 though. Hope it works, cheers!

Usually when Mark releases new versions of Brutal Doom, he also releases patches that change various aspects of the mod. Such as removing certain items, bringing the pistol back, bring back old sounds or textures, etc. He may release them for this one too before long, and with it, an optional file to revert the shotgun back.

Yes... I noticed this too, got a berserk pack, spawned one, nothing. A shame, that was always fun, and actually useful strategically. Since it saved you from being torn in half.

Haven't finished Doom 1 with this yet, but you should be able to. I played the hell out Doom 2 with V19, and 18. So it should work fine. You'll just need the game file.

You'll need Gzdoom, assuming you have this installed, select Brutal Doom with any other mod you want (if they are compatible), and drag these files onto your Gzdoom exe. This'll launch the game with your selected mods. Hope this helps.

This new patch has me absolutely excited. I started to dislike the mod when 1.59 came out, but it has REALLY picked up ever since the Grand Release came out. Keep up the great work UA Mod Team!

Also, will this mod still work with the Steam version of Soulstorm? I could've sworn I heard something about a patch making mods unusable, but I haven't been able to find anything about that.

Thanks man! Lost my detonator for no reason when I went to the next level. The cheat helped out greatly.
