try enhanced full dynamic lighting, the third one from the bottom. dx11 ctds for most and dx10 ctds for some. i guess it also dependent somewhat of hardware which makes it harder to pin down. it's most stable on dx9. for me at least.
the jury is still out on ctds. the game randomly crashes on dx10 and dx11 and what you were doing at the time of the crash can be misinterpreted as being the cause of the ctd. the only thing we can do is make sure to play on dx9 and if we find a bug try to reproduce it and then report it along with the save file
You're on dx9 right? dx10 and 11 seem to be cause of alot of ctds. Most of the times people report as a bug what they were doing the moment of the ctd but that can be false as dx10 and 11 ctds seem to be absolutely random and not related to what you were doing at that time in the game
could we have in the future a way to change balancing on game start through a gui? something along the lines of what you can do in don't starve. some people will always find the balancing too hard while others will find it too easy.
