I have worked with Unknown Worlds Entertainment on Natural Selection 2 for over 3 years as a Level Developer and Internal Web Tools Author where my goal is to develope tools, systems & means of communications that collect, organise and deliver data in a manner that contributes to the reduction of time spent on administration in favour of automated systems for tedious time consuming tasks.

Because of the way the team has been split between the two game titles, After a lot of consideration, It was decided that the most effective approach was for staff with knowledge of and placed focus on Unity to work with that engine while those unfamiliar with unity but know everything about Spark may as well carry on working on NS2 as they can't abandon work on NS2 for the sake of adapting the engine for the requirements of Subnautica.
Plus, Unity was a better candidate when it came down to this game requiring use of Voxels. En.wikipedia.org

All our play testers have a varied range of systems, we have low-spec testers of course.
There is still lots of optimisations to come.
I ran through some tests late last night and here is what you generally need to do as of version 222:

GPU's 756MB on Windows 32-Bit with 4 GB RAM >> LOW
GPU's 756MB on Windows 32-Bit with 2/3 GB RAM >> MEDIUM
GPU's 756MB on Windows 64-Bit >> MEDIUM to HIGH
GPU's 1GB on Windows 32-Bit with 4 GB RAM >> LOW
GPU's 1GB on Windows 32-Bit with 3 GB RAM >> MEDIUM
GPU's 1GB on Windows 32-Bit with 2 GB RAM >> HIGH
GPU's 1GB on Windows 64-Bit with 2 to 16+ GB RAM >> HIGH

(32-Bit can only allocate a total combined RAM and GPU MAP of 3.7?GB)

- - WAIT FOR VERTICAL SYNC = Double Buffered / Triple Buffered
- - AMBIENT OCCLUSION = OFF / MEDIUM
- - TEXTURE STREAMING = ON - SSD users on 800~1000MHz ram might try OFF

NVIDIA USERS (GPU Control Panel)
- - First Ensure all settings are set to Default. (Press RESTORE)
- - DC/QC CPU users Set "Threaded Optimisation" to ON (Setup an NS2 Profile if desired)

ATI USERS (GPU Control Panel)
- - Turn off CATALYST A.I.

I run the i5-2500k @ 3.3GHz, 8GB RAM and GTX460.
I get 33-80fps (40-50fps high average) with Textures on Medium, Ambient Occlusion OFF and everything else ON.

With everything off textures on medium I get 45-90fps

I also previously ran the 8800GTX with similar fps on a 2.4GHz QC before multi threading was put into the engine.

New rendering features have been introduced over the past 6 months.
If you see a decrease each time then you clearly need to knock off the new rendering options that your system can't handle yet.

Turn off ambient occlusion (High shaves off a good 20fps there abouts), toggle the multi core rendering option and perhaps disable atmospherics.
Turn on texture streaming and set texture quality to medium if it's on high.

The entire video is rendered using our game engine, In the cinematic part of this video an actual level is loaded straight from the game, then you use timeline to trigger animations and movement, You get access to this tool with the game so you can make your own cinematic films.

DLC is planned to be free, we don't want to do anything that may fracture our community.
If we need funding we will always seek out routes that do not divide people into upper-class/lower-class gaming like BF3 has done, It's just wrong.
We will sell goodies but we also wont flood the game with a mess of content like TF2 and never sell anything that gives players an advantage.
We want to open a store where you can buy real t-shirts and posters etc.

There are currently 5 official maps out with a 6th map almost ready, Another 2 official maps currently in design pipeline for future patches + there will be more to come on top of that.
Also you get all of our development tools, Lot's of people making their own maps that can be published on the Steam Workshop.
We been working on auto download system if you join a server running custom content.

Marines are having a hard time holding resource nodes, I noticed the games that Marines win on are when Aliens fail to keep on top of taking down Marine resource nodes.
I also see that the Aliens can branch out a lot faster than marines with the recent changes to the way Alien Command now works not having Drifters required to build means they are not waiting for it to not only reach it's destination but also survive it's journey as previously killing one destined for a node was a setback for the Aliens and a Push for the Marines.
Making Alien Command simpler to use has obviously had a drastic affect on balance and now requires to be addressed and will be addressed soon.

The old one looks like a Machinegun, The new one looks like an automatic rifle wich is what it's supposed to be.
So yeh I think I would like to see the old one as an additional weapon with different pros and cons applied to it.

Not just yet, Max is still working constantly on multiple optimisation tasks, the Lua Bind layer hes been working on for a month, Might be finnished soon so we look forward to the results, they look promising biut there is no way of knowing until it's done..
