Forgive me father for I have sinned.. It's been 5 months since my last update. There have been several reasons for this, the most notable including being too academically active, and spending what little time I do have spare, updating the Cheeks of Steel page. However, now that I'm coming to the end of my higher educational studies and my first full project is being released, I find myself in a multitude of stages. Not only have I breached one of life's major crossroads, but my priorities have changed, my goals are different, and its time to start something new.
Not looking too deeply into my previous entries, I believe this is the first one since I started Production on Cheeks of Steel, which means I have a lot to catch up on. Having said that, the past is past, and both my head and my heart look to the future, so I'll keep the catching up to a minimum. The development for Cheeks of Steel revealed to be a combination of things; enjoyable, insightful, and slightly stressful to name but a few. I've understood how games are built, altering my perception of how I see and play games, studying their functionality and what drives them. I've learnt how to create and utilise software for things I didn't know it was possible for, and I've created something to be proud of. My only regrets come from neglecting those that I love as a result of my dedication. Without them, I could not have climbed to the heights that I have reached, and I am eternally in their debt. If any of those few get chance to read this, they know who they are, thank you. I promise that none of it will go in vain.
So what now? A question that I find myself asking several times a times a day at this current moment in time. I step out into the world to ultimately begin my life, and prepare to travel down the road of my choice. Currently, I have no idea which that is, but I know I won't stop searching until I find it. I was actually hoping to have a job lined up for when I left University, but with a high demand for jobs and a heavy recession hitting the economy, I guess I'll just have to keep searching for the time being. In the meantime, my plans include working on a new project, also involving the Unreal 3 engine. The reasoning behind this, is so that I can aim the continuation of my portfolio towards something, and produce that which is a little more myself. Besides, I love designing games. I don't know what I would do without ‘something' to work on. Who and what I'll be working with/on is still up for debate. I have my preferences, yet nothing has been finalised. Nevertheless, as soon something emerges, I'll be sure to release any relevant announcements and information.
In addition to an upcoming project, I'm also looking to enter a short story competition in an attempt to evolve my writing and expand my horizons. Winning the competition, or even doing well would engulf me with a great sense of achievement. But for once, this isn't about my competitive, potentially agonistic temperament, it's about finding myself, and discovering alternate means of expression. For this, I would like to at some point take a minor vacation, where I can experience something different, whilst focusing on writing what's in my mind.
So there you have it, my life and history of the past few months, combined with my near future in little over five hundred words. It deserves much more, but if I failed to keep myself brief, I fear none of my blogs would ever see the light of day; either from length or inability to finish tweaking. Anyhow, I hope that what it is here is of some coherence and that it is at least of some insight into this life of mine. Once again, thanks for reading... Without you, I'd just be talking to myself.
