What a coincidence. I'm currently working on an assignment about the Internet's dependence on Google and what happens? Google goes down for a while and people start panicking and getting angry. Here's some proof about the amount of traffic.
Anyway, the graph shows Internet traffic to Google from the top 10 major ISPs in the US...you see that dip? That's the break in data flow, nearly 1.9 Gigabytes per second to about 128 Megabytes per second...that's really bad.

Thats because people think that they need to search something on google to be able to get to a website.
Not necessarily. YouTube, Gmail and other various Google based services were affected too.
