I'm a mechanical engineering student, and I am a genie editor/graphical artist/compiler for the Expanding Fronts mod. Enough said.

Since this has been asked numerous times by inbox, email, posted here, etc. asking a few certain questions, so I'll give some explanation. Most dead bodies will last longer in this mod, although they won't last forever. I've had some trouble with the game lagging in large games from massive body counts, which is why they won't last forever.

Anyway, for most of the old troopers, they had decaying animations of 5 frames per angle, about 6 game seconds per frame. The reason why the previous units used 5 frames is partially because the game was made in the days when computers had tiny hard drives and a few hundred kilobytes was a huge deal. These guys are getting their animations lengthened by increasing their frame time, maybe 8-10 seconds per frame, it varies unit to unit. New units are given many more frames. For example, the Stormtrooper Commander has an 8-angle, 10 frame decay sequence. Right now I'm doing one with a 15 frame decay sequence. The additional frames take much longer to decay and also decay much more smoothly.

Yes, but B1s will be more like they are in the movies... ie they're cheap and you can build a ton of them quickly, but they would pretty much lose a fight against a nerf :p

Gungans will have some other aquatic things, but we may have some trouble with making more ships, there simply isn't enough information. It's rather annoying really, having civilizations that span the galaxy like the Empire, Republic, Rebels, etc makes it very easy to fill rosters (sometimes too easy, tbh) but with the smaller civs like Wookies, Gungans, Naboo that are basically just single planets... Yah, they don't have quite the same variety of units :(

the old one is weird, it doesn't actually match the appearance of the Phase I, Phase II, or Phase III Dark Trooper. It will probably be used as a Phase Zero Dark Trooper since it actually does look like one.

As far as the weapons, the standard Phase 3 Dark Trooper will likely make use of the integrated wrist blasters, and a rocket version will be used as an editor unit.

You might find it a bit harder to use your old strategies once this gem is released :)

Not technically Appo. But a Stormtrooper Commander, same armor as a 501st trooper like Appo.

Not nearly every other infantry type, it is more than any other infantry type. Grenadiers have a slightly longer attack range but a shorter visual range.

Pretty much. I should've asked what type of trooper it is, not the specific name.

Yes, assuming I understand your question. Units for different civs will have different projectiles and do different amounts of damage and stuff

assault mechs are great, but for their cost they suck against any of the troops armed with rocket launchers

Oh good, that's what he uses to render stuff, it works really well for SWGB apparently

That should be pretty good for Battlegrounds size, when you get the model completed email it to Dallows, he can render it, add player colors, fix the palette, etc.

Well if you have skills to actually make good models that would be great, you said very basic skills so I don't know what you mean by that I guess. Make something cool and show me, I'll tell you if it's useful. An AT-MP or Freerunner would be cool :p

I feel bad about the lack of good screenshots we're able to get up. So I'll just say that two of the units currently in progress are shadow EVO troopers and jump troopers.

Sorry, somehow I overlooked this post, go to aok.heavengames.com and find the "Advanced genie editor". Download that, and make sure in the options it has Auto-copy to all civilizations -> Exclude graphics checked.

Go to the "Units" tab. On the left side there are two boxes that say "Lang DLL Name" change the top one to "Type". In top of the two text boxes above that, type "30". Now the editor will show only dead units.

Now on the right side scroll down until you see a box that says "resource decay" and change that to -1. Repeat for all units.

Well Old Republic stuff was possibly planned for a future update, this mod requires a ton of work already so we're trying to focus on the civilizations already in the game.

If you have skills with 3d modeling, animation, etc that is useful, if you're good with photoshop that can also be used. Just be warned, probably the most important thing you'd be doing with photoshop would be extremely monotonous. Nothing extremely difficult, more like me sending you a couple hundred frames of trooper graphics and needing player colors touched up a little bit or shadows fixed up. Simple, but monotonous :(

Referring to doing mods for KOTOR and The Old Republic, or using units from those games in this game?

It might not lag from too many dead bodies, I recall terrible lag from too many projectiles and making units appear too fast. One thing that stops me from doing it is the fact that I no longer have an unedited copy of the genie_x1.dat file. but if you wanna try making one I could give you instructions, it's easy just a lot of repetition.

Yes, the mod does nothing to alter any of the units that come standard with the game and the new content is only available if you research it in TL1.

No it won't, although such a mod could be done relatively easily, the issue is partially in the game itself, trying to render all the frames of the bodies. SWGB is not exactly the most efficient game around, it would start bogging down once the corpses really pile up.

All that I know about modding aoe3 is that you can reskin units in the game easy enough but you can't get any new models in the game unless you purchase Granny 3d and I don't happen to have an extra 18 grand lying around to make a mod :/

Yes, and B1s are a great unit if you wanna quickly get a hundred or more troops on the battle field. But not good if you want them to kill anything :p

About a week and a half left for school then plenty of updates shall ensue. Namely finishing touches on EVO and Shadow EVO troopers, and I almost have a completed X-Wing Pilot (basically a fast, weak trooper that can repair stuff)

knowledge of the genie engine is not exactly necessary, only I have to really know it so I can control things and Dallows has to know just enough to know what can/can't be done with the engine. It's mainly graphical things that take so much time, particularly since we have been unable to find models for certain things we're working on.

Possibly, I was never particularly familiar with the different dark trooper types apart from playing Battlefront and Battlefront II, so I didn't know there were so many.
