Hello everyone once again. This blog entry is dedicated to the D-Day mod for RA2:YR made by MiG_Eater which is going to have a new release this Friday. This time I wanted to focus more on a static story and try to feature no violence and explosions. I believe I kind of made it. So yeah, that is all for the introductory text.

Also, I wanted to say sorry in advanced because I couldn't find a tutorial neither a hotkey to remove the in-game menu altogether. I know I could just cut the image up in GIMP but I felt it wouldn't be good.

Somewhere in Eastern Poland, June 9th the year of 1952. The lonely Soviet OKB base.

Enter the early post-war years where the war has ended and a new one had begun in the ashes of the old World that brought the New World Order. Tensions had recently arised in Europe and a new era dubbed the Cold War by the Westerners had started late May 1945. Chances of a total destruction is looming on the earth. With the retreat of certain American divisions caused by a wide political issues regarding funding them the great Soviet Army had increased its presence all around the Eastern Europe. No longer being threatned by the conventional attacks from the land but facing a new incredibly dangerous threat created by the very same science that had ending the last global war. Certain regions had been selected for special trials of military hardware, controlled by the NKVD and with techincal expertise coming from the OKB and the Sharashkas from various GULAGs a new age of military superiority is beginning. One of these bases was created close to the Polish-Soviet border area somewhere in the beginning of this decade. Manned by experienced technical staff, guarded by NKVD field officers and further augumented by soldiers drawn from the local garrisons this OKB base is indeed special. Hidden somewhere in the woods away from the local population areas. Inside the base there can be heard WWII-era propaganda music playing from the loudspeakers, the sound of trucks heading in and out of the base and the sounds of footsteps from the engineers. Given the codename "Rospis'" and housing some of the most interesting Western war machines in it's concrete belly.

Just an ordinary early morning day in the OKB base. Trucks bringing supplies in from the supplies field in the hilly terrain above. Soldiers praticing fire with their new AK-47 rifles, engineers being busy studing the blueprints of the combat vehicles. Some are in deep thought wondering if the AT guns have any reason for living in the modern world of new Main Battle Tank vehicles. Certainly the only good looking thing and a source of happiness in the base must be the pair of horses belonging to the Kiril's private farm house. Good thing Kiril wasn't here for a long time and his farm was declared abandoned. Things are soon going to become very strange.

At around 1000 hours there was suspicious call to the Commander which was at the time in the Headquaters building. There was a mention of a crate, of something very strange going on in the farm located close the base, which was even more bad than the call itself. Immediately an alert was rang and a motorised patrol was sent to investigate the farm. The suddenly sleepy soldiers who had found a purpose now had not found anything interesting. The main house was checked thoroughly, nothing to use or to read was found inside it. What may had been a simple prankster's call in these uneasy times now had evolved into a state of alert for all military forces in the area and a hunt for the caller and for the important cargo. Secrecy of the base was dropped, tanks were rolled out from their hangars and the commander was just waiting for the go-code to deploy the hardware and the manpower inside the town. Thanks to the NKVD guys who kept the telephone lines controlled a approximant location of the caller was found.

Once again there was nothing found that was of interest. The house was abandoned and so were the streets near it. More strange even was the fact streetlamps were on despite it being morning times not night. The cost of the operation is outweighting its usefulness. Something must be done in order to stop this craziness. Suddenly one the grunts protecting the parked AT-T heavy-lift truck had noticed a guy in a white T-shirt and blue Jeans starring at the convoy with a dumbfounded look. An enemy of the people indeed.

Just in time the important Troikas from the NKVD had arrived and the guy is cornered. Suspect did not said anything the soldiers, when being threatned with a AK-47 he suddenly starting run around with his hands up like a maniac. A specialist form the NKVD was in the mean time preparing some medicine for him as the others had taken over the duty from us. He will be transported into the base for questioning in the Guards BRDM-1 armoured scout car.

Sentries from the construction site of a second OKB base in the area had report strange activity going on around the church. Feeling this might be it a third convoy was dispatched into the area with the last remaining AT-T heavy cargo trucks the base had to spare. Upon being approached by the NKVD officer and his accompanying soldiers the man did not said anything, tried to run into the woods at was stopped by gunfire. Inside the church again there was nothing found of use. The wooden crate was opened with crowbars from the BTR-152 and inside it foregin currency was found. This will go into the construction effort. Just as the squad commanders were to be issued a order to pull back for stirring up uneeded hatred, wasting people's money and causing a risk of war something had happened.

Engineer Somotov had noticed a German StuG, a remnant of the war and so the convoy followed his given coordinantes. Hidden in the trees all around the chapel were Western machines of war. An unprecedented discovery especially in a region like this. Now the operation had paid for itself. Somotov begun noting down the names of the models in his notebook, the AT-Ts were pulled back as the machines were found to be capable of operating. Now the last work is left for the border guards stationed at the bridge to provide a non-killing distraction to swiftly allow the transportation. The Rospis' base couldn't had dreamed of a better discovery.

CONTENTS USED:

Red Alert 2: Yuri's Revenge the version from the The First Decade anniversary compliation DVD. D-Day TC modification by MiG-Eater ran on the latest Ares 0.6 expansion DLLs version. That is all.

SOME WORDS:

I really hope for the early JSDF to be featured in the upcoming new D-Day. If not, then at least more island-themed maps and a Japanese infantrymen with a Howa Type 64 battle rifle. Would be really cool for my blog attempt.
