My name is Rob and I started designing and developing games in 2007. I started my Indie studio, Vital Games, in 2011 and haven't looked back. I have created and released 3 mobile games on Android and iOS and have just finished developing my fourth game, Gene.

It's a game breaker

RabbyC Blog

Oh. My. God. I naively thought, ‘let’s do another tech demo showing free play mode and just how much game play you can get from Gene’.

Chose a level and whilst playing through it, I find my vertical moving platforms were missing. This is a game breaker. Without those platforms you cannot reach the rest of the platforms and play through the game. Suddenly I felt sick to my stomach to think my game is broken with less than a week to release.

An hour later and I have found the problem. It was a Game Maker update. I had to turn off short circuit evaluations – pleeeease be careful if you are using this function. Turned it off and all returned to normal. Thank God.Back on course for release on 31st January. Pending any further disasters.

Hurry up!

RabbyC Blog

Seriously hurry up and be 31st January already. I cannot wait to see Gene released – whatever the outcome. It has been a labour of love and the end is nearly in sight. The game itself was finished early October, then came testing which lasted two months, but with hindsight I should have allowed more time to decrease my stress levels! This game is the first time I have really applied any kind of marketing. I got some great tips from Indie Game Girl such as the landing page, creating my press release and the importance of generating hype before the release. I really hope that whatever people’s opinion of the game, they can appreciate the time and effort and love that has gone in to making this by one person on their own.
