Our PHS_FPS is a high school level indie team from Palmdale High School, Ca. Our video game production class FalconTechStudios, allows students to simulate a real-world production studio experience by working in interdisciplinary production departments to create a multi-faceted, large-scale video game production. Students also work in small teams across the production cycles towards indie production, building a 2D video game based on a current generation game remixed to a different genre. Teams are encouraged to particapte within the indie community and support the use of open-source software. Rules: sprite based, remix of an existing video game. Our decision: Starcraft using the Wolfenstein 3D engine. Ready for one insane ride. I am told there will be fights, ripping hair out, some tears and lots of long nights. We have less than a year, but we can do this. Are you down?

So this is blog entry one on this journey of great trials. Thus far we have had great enjoyment in learning to operate essential programs such as DosBox (oh wow, pre-Windows? That exists?), FloEdit, and WinRar--haha who knew getting stuff from school and home required such a delicate process. We have seen inside of what a video game is made of, or so we assume we have. We also did some of the things we are a lot more comfortable with (we both ADORE Photoshop), but in hindsight maybe we should have gone out of our comfort zone in designing the logo--apparently vector is better for that kind of thing, but I've never touched Illustrator. So at this point we feel we have done so much, but only have a couple of pictures to our names. Well, no one ever said this was going to be easy. If using Dos doesn't push us past our limits I tthink we may get out alive, with a video game!
