Awakening of the Rebellion 2.8

Mod review

A fantastic mod that adds a lot to the game with one, deeply crippling bug - The AI.
To start with the positives, the game offers a more campaign-oriented experience to users ala the single-player stories of the original Empire at War and Forces of Corruption that offers creative missions at too short a supply. One in particular has you stealing a Lambda shuttle from a shipyard while posing as a shipment freighter.
It was genius, it really was. I wish there were more of these missions as the variety benefited the experience tremendously in between the often chaotic all-out warfare the base game is frequently known for.
The new ships look nice, there's a fine polish and I would have utterly loved this mod if not for one huge, foreboding problem that hung over me the entire time I was playing.
I guess to be more aptly put, it was a lack of something hanging over me. The AI did nothing. Sure, they'd fire on me when I dropped three Moncal cruisers right on top of their heads, but beyond that there was no movement, no attempt at an attack. Nothing. They simply sat there as I expanded and invaded without a single effort to be made to stop my onslaught, not once did I experience a counter attack or even a real defense or even a station upgrade. This made gauging the balance of ships, heroes and land units difficult for both sides as there was nothing really there in the enemy's complacent destruction.

That's my biggest draw with this. This mod, with more missions and bug fixes, could be truly great. Hell it stands to have potential to be among the best if it weren't for that one glaring problem. The mod hasn't had an update in quite some time beyond developer journals and I'm hopeful to see something soon, but for now this mod stands as a testament to what can and should be done with the game and it's engine sans those colossal bugs impeding the experience.
