Counter-Life 2

Early access mod review

Played with the "Early Access" version.

Counter-Life 2 adds Counter-Strike: Source weapons and functions to Half-Life 2.
Needs some polish to be really enjoyable but the Early Access version is fun.

DBP59: Zeppelin Armada

Mod review

A very good Steampunk Megawad !
My only criticism is the number of enemies, sometimes there are too many in small areas, personally I don’t find this fun.
However, this Megawad is worth a look especially for its level design !

Raising the Bar: Redux

Early access mod review

For me, this is the best Half-life 2 Beta mod. Many people complain that the team take A LOT of liberties in terms of visuals and artistic directions.
Indeed, even if it's a beta recreation, weapons and enemies have new designs created especially for this mod.
Personally, this is what I like in this mod, it’s the Half-Life 2 Beta with custom visuals and features.
A must play !

Half-Nuked

Mod review

Half-Nuked is a weapons mod for Half-Life, it replaces weapons from Half-life with those (not all) from Duke Nukem 3D.
This is not just a weapons reskin mod, the weapons from Duke Nukem 3D works exactly like on the Build engine.
Very satisfying to use especially the shotgun and the RPG.

Amalgam

Mod review

One of the best Half-Life 2 "Vanilla style" mod.
There are new weapons sounds and walking animations, it's not a big change but it's appreciable.
I really like the "horror theme" chapter, didn’t expect to see that in this mod.

HROT

Early access game review

HROT is an excellent and unique quake-inspired FPS.
It's brown, funny, have a very good level design (maybe too many sewers) with a dark OSTs.

Half-Life : Echoes

Mod review

Short but one of the best mod for Half-Life !
It looks like an official game so the level design, animations and scripted moments are quality !
Pure gold work !

Deathmatch Classic

Game review

Deathmatch Classic is a very good recreation of the multiplayer of the first Quake on the GoldSource Engine with Half-Life assets.
Use Parabot if you want to play against bots (since there are no players online).

Half-Life : MMod

Mod review

What is Half-Life: MMod ? In reality, the good question is, what's the meaning of "MMod" ?
Half-Life: MMod "modernizers" the base game: new AI, new graphical effects, enhanced weapons.
It's a fan remastered version of Half-Life (not Opposing Force and Blue Shift sadly).
With this mod, the game becomes much more fun !
As a bonus, there are 2 additional campaigns: The Uplink demo and the mod USS Darkstar made by Black Widow Games (They Hunger) in 1999.
If you’ve played Half-Life hundreds of times or you’re afraid you won’t like the base game if it’s your first time, this mod is perfect.

Quake

Game review

Quake is an excellent dark FPS mixing several genres, science fiction, medieval universe, black magic, demons and many others.
Despite its great visual age, the vibes of the game is with its gameplay, the greatest quality of the game.
I realized while playing Quake that I love games where a hero of a modern or futuristic era, travels in other dimensions or time as in DOOM, Serious Sam, Chasm: The Rift or the mod for Duke Nukem 3D, WGRealms DemonThrone.
I played Quake in its original version (DOS emulator), glQuake and vkQuake ports as well as recently the remastered version of NightDive Studios.
The new remastered version, in addition to PUT MUSIC, is excellent. The presence of multiplayer bots is very appreciable.
Like all remastered versions and games of Nightdive, the new version of Quake runs with the KEX Engine, a very good engine.
But as with Turok and BLOOD games, I have, with Quake, stability problems, nothing serious compared to the other games mentioned but it is not normal.
As with the other games, I noticed that by activating the VSync option, I no longer have performance problems but like a lot of people,
I hate activating this option, impossible to aim in a pleasant way with this. But the game is still extremely playable.
In Quake, the hero (called Ranger in Quake 3: Arena) must travel in 4 dimensions; Dimension of the Doomed, The Realm of Black Magic,
The Netherworld and The Elder World to get 4 runes. These 4 runes open the final boss area.
The game is inspired (and clearly takes names) from the universe of Lovecraft.
There are 2 new DLCs added in this remastered version and developed by Machine Games (the new Wolfenstein games), the second one
(Dimension of the Machine) is SUBLIME visually.
There is also an "Extension" menu where, as for the re-releases of the first DOOM, you can directly download addons made by the community.
The very first extension of this system was the Nintendo 64 version of Quake (I don’t think this one was made by the community, I think it’s a real
port of Quake 64 to this new version of Quake by NightDive).
