The Present
Clark dodged a giant fist of green energy. He rolled until he was a yard away from the Green Lantern. He could see the smug look on the bastard's face.
“What's that? Cat got your tongue? Or did you sell it for some booze?” the Green Lantern said, hovering forward.
Clark's eyes glanced at the monstrosity, and its eyes beginning to glow.
“I'm going to enjoy wiping the filth like you from this planet, you no good moth-” the Green Lantern began, when the monstrosity fired its lasers into his back, sending him crashing to the ground.
“Kal-El is for Brainiac to possess, Lantern. You shall not stand in the way of Brainiac,” the monstrosity declared, grabbing the Lantern by his arm and tossing him into a bus. “We must evacuate now, or face greater numbers of Lanterns. They may be already on their way.”
Clark had a double take. Brainiac was trying to help him? If anything, Clark knew he'd have a better chance fighting Brainiac than the Lantern.
“You will follow this unit, now,” Brainiac said, lifting into the air with a blast of fire from his feet.
Zod was nowhere in sight, and the Lantern was starting to wake up. Clark had little choice short of trying to outrun both his opponents. He'd follow Brainiac into the sky, maybe Zod was waiting in the shadows for the right moment.
“Where are we going?” Clark asked as he ascended into the sky, not paying attention the people below, gasping at the sight of him flying.
“Somewhere safe,” was Brainiac's only reply.
