Saved in Sid's bunker and reloaded until I got a second variant of the TOZ-34. Purchasing that resulted in the task updating with the location of the person who gave me it clearly marked on the PDA. So it seems that the weapon obtaining tasks target specific variants, as opposed to the general firearm model. Thank you for the assistance with figuring out this problem, everyone.

Now to come up with a plan of sneaking by the pseudogiant that's been stomping around the Garbage on the way to Bar...

I actually do have STCoP installed, and I know there are different variants for the TOZ-66, so it's not unlikely that there could be multiple variants of the TOZ-34 (though I didn't pay attention to that since I already had a good shotgun and just glossed over that part of the trader's inventory to get to the ammo). I'll see if I can get my hands on any other potential variants of the 66 and if that solves the problem.

I don't know if this is a new quest, or one inherent to CoC since there's no list of potential quests this mod offers, but I took a job to get a TOZ-34 for a Duty soldier at Bar. First thing I notice is that there's no quest target whatsoever, it just appears in my Active List as white. "Alright," I think to myself, "It'll probably change once I pick up a TOZ-34. So I travel back to Cordon, and get a TOZ-34 from Sid, then pop back over to Bar. There's no quest target, the Duty soldier was a generic NPC and I can't remember his name (Ivan Ivanovsky? Vodka Drinksi?), going around to all the Duty NPCs didn't result in me seeing any "Complete this quest" dialog, and dropping the TOZ-34 and picking it up from the ground doesn't seem to change the quest stage at all. There doesn't seem to be any time limit on this quest or something, so just letting it fail won't do crap. Am I stuck with this useless quest on my PDA for good, unable to complete it and just cluttering up my task list? Any way to remove this quest, or force completion of it? The shotgun's just taking up space and weight in my pack too, since I already have a perfectly good autoloader for my primary.

Anyone know what would cause a fatal error to trigger just from enabling the use of a silencer on the OTS-33? It ****** me off that this "special-forces" designed pistol apparently doesn't allow for a way to not broadcast its shots to everyone within a 1 km radius, so I went into the weapons folder and set silencer_status to 2. Now, when I try to load my save, I get the following error upon loading.

FATAL ERROR

[error]Expression: assertion failed
[error]Function: HUD_SOUND::LoadSound
[error]File: E:\stalker\sources\trunk \xr_3da\xrGame\HudSound.cpp [Had to break up this line with a space in between trunk and xr due to comment field limits]
[error]Line: 41
[error]Description: count

So it seems that there's something up with sound, which makes no sense because I haven't made any edits to the sounds used by the weapon or the sound_script file.

If I can't get this weapon to use a silencer, I'll just have to resign myself to using the Walther P99 that uses 9x18mm instead of 9x19, and know it never gets any better than that in terms of affordable/plentiful ammo and usefulness. And given you can get that when you still have half of the game to go, that's just beans.
