Brutal Doom Platinum

Mod review

I really hate to seem like some huge buzzkill, but I truthfully cannot, as a fan of Brutal DOOM, and Dox's addon for it, say that I enjoy this mod or recommend it. Not much good has been added to this mod since Emerald took the reins. This is almost entirely just a buggier, unbalanced version of Dox's original addon. Most of the newly added features are incredibly niche in their usage. The COD-styled sprinting cannot be turned off, whereas in Dox's addon you had the option to pick the Tactical class if you wanted to use the sprinting system. I don't think I need to justify why COD-styled sprinting is pace-killing for DOOM, nevermind Brutal DOOM. The Icon of Sin rework from Brutal DOOM v21 is also completely broken by a number of items in this mod's arsenal, most notably the BFG Nuke Launcher, which completely eradicates the boss in less than a second. In all honesty, this mod feels like the reanimated corpse of Dox's Brutal DOOM addon, covered in glitz, glamor and gloss for those weird Project Brutality YouTube channels that load 40+ graphical addons, that one Glory Kill addon, and then play ZDoom slaughtermaps on "Power Fantasy" difficulty. I'll give it another try when a toggle option for the godawful sprinting is added, but as it currently stands, I cannot recommend this mod for anyone who wants an experience that is either fast paced or fun.

Doom3D

Mod review

Includes incredibly visually attractive models, inspired by Quake, and gameplay changes inspired by Half-Life and Quake to match. A simple concept, but it truly works well, although the gameplay itself is rough around the edges, but since the mod is still partially undergoing development, it won't stay like that for long. It's become one of my personal favorite gameplay mods, due to it being a midway point between Brutal Doom and vanilla gameplay. An absolute underrated gem.
