I don't know if this is ever possible, because the project is old and it was not intended to be compatible with new GrayFace's patch features.
The new classes patch may also not be working because of your operating system or some other reasons - it is ancient.

Watch out for quest items: if you found an obviously quest item without getting the quest for it first, consider reloading. I met a few game-breaking bugs with this.

Wow, someone managed to make it straight to Pt. 2. Unfortunately I don't know the solution for this because personally I never made it (something was wrong with the starting savegame). Perhaps I will be able to find someone from Maestro Team who knows the answer. One thing I know is that you might probably need some kind of key to activate these orbs, pretty much like it was in Maestro Mod for MM7.

Actually I think that any version of Heroes 3 SoD or Heroes Complete is fine, but we will need to check.
Peasants will not have the same stats as in Heroes 1-2.
More likely that no. But they will have stats different from Heroes 1-2.
You will require GoG-version of Heroes 3 to install the mod. But I recommend to wait until the release :)

Did you try GrayFace's MM7 patch? It should fix the compatibility problem.
You should launch the native MM6.exe after replacing the data files of the original game. See the installation instructions.
