I guess I'll try my hand at publicizing some games that I feel deserve more attention than they currently have. I'll leave these up until I'm satisfied with the amount of publicity has been generated.

BitFighter is a game I stumbled upon on Wikipedia while looking at cross-platform games for Mac. There wasn't a link to an article, but to the website that it's hosted on. (See above). It's cross platform on 3 platforms, Windows, Mac, and Linux.
The history of this game starts off with Zap!, developed by GarageGames. GarageGames is credited for developing the Torque game engine, which apparently has been used by many other game developers for consoles and PCs. A different form of Torque, called Torque Network Library, has been used to create Zap!, an open source 2D shooter similar to the classic Asteroids, but has much more to offer than just blasting asteroids. The original Zap! was developed and created by GarageGames, providing a fast and fun experience for quite a few people back in 2004. While not free, it was open source for any contributors to help out in improving the game.
In 2008, a new version of Zap! renamed ZAP (Zero All Productivity) was developed by both GarageGames as well as Bad Habit Software.
In the middle of the decline of Zap! and the beginning of ZAP; In 2007, an independent developer brought Zap!/ZAP to a new level called BitFighter.
As time went on, however, ZAP eventually died down. GarageGames was absorbed by
The major difference between the Zap games and BitFighter is that BitFighter is free to play and licensed under GPLv2. Meaning that you can help contribute to making this game better!
You are in control of a spaceship, the ship can be controlled by your kb/mouse setup or by use of dual analog. Sounds familiar? Almost as if it controls like an FPS. The gameplay is, while looking very similar to a 2D shooter, also contains elements you would recognize from an FPS, such as Capture the Flag, Team Deathmatch, Control Points, and more!
Keep in mind this is NOT an FPS! This is a 2D shooter that refines the genre into something familiar, yet fresh!
Right now, this game needs players, so far there's a small, but very dedicated team working on this game, their hard work deserves more recognition.
Here's a sample video of Bitmatch (deathmatch) gameplay:

@ID_AA_Carmack It's unpredictable, it's not stable, and it can be more of a hassle than a convenience for gamers.
