I didn't really play any of the Stalker games for the story, more for the gameplay.
You can finish this game in roughly 6 hours (like I did), but afterwords you can only find pockets of Zombies, mutants and bandits to fight. The Zone becomes too easy to conquer once you complete the story and get a few decent weapons.
The first map (swamp; forget what it's called) and Jupiter are much more fun to play around than Pripyat which is dull and boring. As such, I think these maps require wayyyyy more enemies to fight. The idea of Monolith in Jupiter is a good one, because like the Mercenaries, they are an actual challenge. Larger groups of Zombies and Mutants would also be a plus, but it is the Human factions that provide the most challenge.
