the unreal engine does automatically scale textures for models... but it still keeps the 1024 or whatever res. UT skins DEFINATELY look better in 1024. However, I *think* 3d accelerated mode blurs over this extra detail and so is only noticeable in software mode (in which I run UT cos of graphics card issues). But despite software mode running perfectly fine on new PCs, I still don't think many ppl want to go there, espec with your increased poly count! ie I agree 256 is fine!

ya sure that 256 is the max res deus ex supports? I've been skinning and texturing levels in unreal tournament and unreal using 1024x1024 textures- even 2048x2048! I'm pretty new to this stuff tho, so maybe I'm missing something. Anyway, the project is looking awesome anyway!
