if mods are to be sold for money doesnt that make them dlc? i mean if you think about it. its additional content, perhaps not created by the original developer, but it is to be sold to get more maps, skins, game modes, and many other enhancements. are companies too lazy to even make dlc themselves now? with the 25/25/50 split its just another way for them to make money without actually putting in any effort.
think back on recent releases like rome 2. it was an unfinished mess when released, and to many tw fans it was a slap in the face. the politics system is very basic and practically non existent to this day. yet modders stepped in to improve it, to create a game closer to what the developers had promised. now i ask you, if a developer sees mods as an additional source of income while at the same time being an over time improvement to their games, what sort of motivation would they have to push the limits in the attempt to make a truly great game (i know a bit of a hyperbole here, but not far from the truth you must admit)
to be honest , yes a lot of the mods are great and perhaps the modders deserve compensaion, but dont most of them do it for the love of modding, for the love of improving their favourite games and making them what they should have been in many cases. as pointed out, they have no deadlines, no publishers pushing for release, and if im not mistaking some even get jobs through their mods. granted it can be an immense amount of work, but dont modders do it for their passion, for their hobby?
