I had a great time the year I was stationed in Italy. I only made it to Sicily once on a 22 hour road trip from Catanzaro Lido down to the ferry and quickly around the island hitting the three big cities. It was beautiful, but we hardly stopped. I had to go back on duty 2 hours later.
I was actually in Simeri Crichi or Sellia Marina during both the Lampedusa missile crisis when Khadafi fired a missile at Lampedusa Island and during the Chernobyl Incident. I handled communications between Delta Force and HQ when they arrived at Lampedusa.
