After the destruction of Novaya Russia, the victorious United Earth Directorate enjoyed many years of peace and technological progress, eventually managing to colonize the local solar system.
In 2115 many of Earth's colonies united under a separatist faction started by a massive miner revolt on Mars. Despite the combined forces of over 17 colonies spanning 8 planets and 9 moons the UED, using their advanced robots, large ships and railgun technology destroyed the rebellion and united humanity once more under the black eagle banner.
