Hey, thanks for pointing this out, I'm not a mac user so I never would have picked up this issue, thanks!

We're putting out another build very soon, so I'll make sure that Mac version is a Zip File.

We are aware of the scripting error in our current build (v3) that makes the game unbeatable, and are in the process of fixing it, please wait for v3.1 to fully enjoy the new update. Thank you.

Hey, thanks for sorting that out, but I don't know why you're apologizing, it was my fault for renaming the .exe post-build. Anyway, I'm really overjoyed at the response to this simple indie horror, thank you Mantai for the let's play, and bringing this error to my attention, and thank you guest for working out the issue!

Hey guys, Hikari here.

I have some really bad news.

There has been a tremendous game-breaking bug in our latest build of Refuge, and we have no idea how to fix it. It's not in the code, or anything in unity (as far as we can tell anyway), so updates on Refuge have stopped semi-permanently.

We still have everything on our computers, and will continue to work on fixing this bug in our own time when we can, but for now we are going to have to remove the deadline and competition, and we will now prioritize our time immediately on a game we've been working on in the background.

Words can't really express how disappointed and angry we are, but we promise that this new game will be better than ever, to make up for all this trouble.

I hope next time I comment here it will be with good news, but until then, thanks.

Hikari

This feels like, to me, what Fatal Frame/Project Zero could have been if Tecmo had made it on a next gen console, or for PC, and not gone handheld. Don't get me wrong, Spirit Camera is ok, but it feels pretty empty when you take away the novelty of it. This however is not only very similar to the classic original, but improves on it in a way that I don't think breaks the tone. For example, the objects/paths/puzzles that you interact with when a picture is taken isn't a far stretch from taking pictures of scrolls that blocked paths in the original game.

Basically, my point is this. This game is fantastic, improving and expanding on an already unique and interesting idea, but keeping the feel and the fear every bit as engaging as before. Bravo to the developers, seriously, BRAVO.

Now, as you may have seen in my Blogspot post, we are sending out five copies of a 'Refuge' Test Demo. Basically, a few lucky people will receive a copy of the Refuge full release, and will have the final say on changes\improvements to the game before it's release as a finished product.

So for your chance to win, reply to our blogspot post named 'Giveaway time!' with your name and e-mail address, as well as a short sentence describing your favorite feature of the current 'Refuge' beta. Winners will be contacted directly, competition ends June 1st.

Good Luck!

Hey Hershy, I liked the Let's Play a lot, it was fun and interesting to see what you made of the game. I really don't mean to tell you how to make your videos but it would be better if you didn't cut bits out, as the creator I was wondering how you worked out the door mechanics, or where you got stuck/lost, so I could change stuff depending on your beta experiences. If you have an unedited version of your vid, I would love to see it. Anyway, thank you so much for this, and I hope your YouTube videos get the credit they deserve!

I'm terribly sorry but I haven't been able to find a solution to your problem. I plan to purchase a mac soon, so that we can create Mac builds more efficiently and (hopefully) without bugs such as this. That said, that is likely to happen few months from now, so doesn't really address the immediate issue.. If anyone who reads this comment has any Mac knowledge, myself and Moochers would really appreciate it if you got in touch! Thanks.

Hey, thanks very much for all the helpful and positive words. As you probably already know, there is a massive update coming soon, and I hope you like the later changes we have already made that address some of the issues you and others have found. It's people like you that give developers the inspiration to carry on. We currently have two new projects in the works which will appear here soon, so I hope you continue to be a strong presence when they are released, and I loved your let's play!

There is a Linux version coming with the next major update, without question. However, as we haven't receive much interest from Linux users, it isn't a priority for our current version. If we receive a little more interest, I would be happy to upload a Linux version, and name you as the instigator! :)

I don't have much experience with Mac's I'm afraid, but I assure you I'm about to spend some time looking at what the problem could be, and will get back to you. Thank you for the feedback.

The mannequins will soon have a sanity system, the closer you get, and the longer you look at them, the more your sanity will drain. This is good let's play, thanks for all the support!

Loved your let's play, and I can't thank you enough for enjoying our game. The audio isn't perfect, and the fps drop at the end seems to be unnmovable... But overall, I am glad you liked the game, and well done for completing it on your first try!

P.s. The mouse has been changed, and textures will be revamped in the next update. Cheers! :)

I'm intrigued to know how you saw said Dev copy, but I'm glad you did. Our programmer is pretty good, but on occasion I had to write scripts myself when he was unavailable and so there are area's with bad code. Thank you for your great comment, and I do agree the Office block is a bit too maze-like. Cheers.

This is a fantastic review, and I love constructive criticism. I'll try and respond to all your points:
-The game definitely is laggy at times, at the moment I think it is due to my rather inferior coding in some sections clutters up the scenes.
-The flashlight was intended not to move with the mouse, as I didn't want to have it feel like your arm is attached to your head, but if enough people find it annoying, it will be changed.
-The Esc button will work in certain areas to quit the game, it is being fixed as I speak.
-Often the unity engine itself will spawn players 180 degrees in the wrong direction at the load up of a level, we have not been able to find a workaround as of yet.
-There are 'fake scares' in the audio, this was purposefully added as a placeholder until we programme context sensitive music into the enemy.
This has been a fantastic review, and I hope you continue to be a fan and helpful critic, see you in the future!
