Great mod, thanks for making :D One thing i did experience that was a little out of place though was that even after you warmed up by a fire the motion blur effect from the cold was still present. I easily rectified this by saving and loading but it's still a glitch that I'd love to see fixed :) (I was running at max settings if that has anything to do with it)

turning this game into a l4d campaign completely defeats the purpose of the mod. the mod is about the story, not the gameplay.

Brilliant work as always :D When you displace the environments, do you ever use the sew function and if so, how do you solve the problem of the textures looking stretched?

Has anyone told you that you map like a god? If not then let me be the first to say it.

((Read below first))

But this is where it starts to become a bit unlcear. The island portrayed in Dear Esther is blurred between fantasy in reality. While it is completely plausible that he travelled to an abandoned island with a dismal and dreary history-scored high and low with white lines made from Esther's incnerated ashes to commit suicide by jumping off of the islands radio tower, it is no less plausible, however, that the entire island is a figment of his imagination. The alchohol chemical diagrams, the electrical diagrams all support this--as well as the fact that there are cars in the hollow center of the island all support this. The island, in his mind, could be another kidney stone that has risen form the depths of his imagination. Or, as he is travelling through the caves under the island, could stand for a much larger symbol--namely of the infection (the main character represented as such) moving through his hollowed out veins towards his heart to claim his life. The metaphorical disease could be interpreted as the syphilus of Esther Donnely who wrote the book that he talks so much about, or it could be the longing to return to his wife/girlfriend reaching out to kill him. In either case the island is a paradox. Being both fantasy and reality--but neither at the same time.

There are also many refrains that the narrator uses--such as the common reference to the number 21. These simply add emotion and give new meaning to the imagery seen in Dear Esther. For instance, his reference to the holy man arriving in a ship without a bottom is used to describe the way he eels about his'infection', "I have come in a heart without a bottom, all of the bacteria of my gut rise to sing to me". I hope this helps in your understanding of Dear Esther :)

Not at all. The story has multiple interpretations and meanings, but the most literal one would be this. This guy, the unnamed main character, is driving home on a bleak night (on the M5 highway in Brittain) with his fiancee or wife Esther, a man named Paul Jacobson-who has just attended a farewell party and has drinken a little. Then, for some undefined cause open to interpretation, whether from drinking or from fate, they crash. Jacobson's heart stops and takes 21 shocks with a jump cable tied to the cars battery to restart his heart (if that quote isnt metaphorical), Esther is killed instantly and the main character suffers from severe shock as he observes the horrors around him--disregarding the fact that he is severely injured. As he mourns over the loss of his beloved-to make a long story short-he decides to commit suicide. This is where the story begins on the island.
