Hey! There should be gold ores on every map you play. Obsidian was taken out of the game in the latest version.

I uploaded ver 0.4.1 in the files section now.

I haven't added Watch Tower yet, but I've fixed numerous bugs (including the one you mentioned), tweaked existing difficulty levels and added SANDBOX difficulty level. So now you can play with the mechanics without stressing about the enemy attacking you.

Thanks for the feedback!

Hey, thanks for more suggestions.

1. I might add a Colony building that can create new Villagers.

2. I'll re-consider adding mud bricks as a resource. The only problem is that some of the factions I want to add did historically use stone, limestone etc., so it doesn't necessarily make sense to add. :)

4. None of the factions from the time period I'm basing the game of from used War Elephants or Horse Cavalry, but War Chariots will be the ultimate elite unit in the game.

Thanks for the input!

I decided mud bricks as a resource would complicate the gameplay too much, since this is not strictly a slow-paced city builder.

At the moment:

Tier 1 units: cost wood.
Tier 2 units: cost wealth (and sometimes wood).
Tier 3 units: also cost metal.

Plus, metal will be used for unit upgrades in a soon to come update.

So a well-balanced economy is required for higher-end units.

I understand your concern about having two resources that are harvested the same way. However, there will be other ways to generate wealth than mining obsidian and gold in future builds. When all the planned core mechanics are tied together, and if it doesn't work out, I'll definitely consider changing or removing wealth as a resource.

Thanks @Lagi, this is fantastic feedback.

4. Mini map is on the road map.
5. I actually implemented AOE style upgrading in buildings to begin with. However, I decided to implement the Tech Tree instead.
6. I'll add this in a future update.
9. I will add this when I implement Lockstep. It's a bit further down the track.
10. Grouping is part of the road map and should be released in one of the next builds.
11. Metal will be more useful in the next updated build. :)
12. I understand where you come from, and I'm continually re-assessing this resource. I'm not sure how I will change this, or if I will, yet. I thought about stone for a long time, but I'm not convinced it fits the Bronze Age era (given sun dried mud-bricks were used instead of stone many places).
16. Patrol command is on the road map.
21. Good slingers were known to have longer range than archers. However, the Composite Bow technology increases Bowman's range to almost the same as Slinger's attack range.

Also, thanks for the bug reports. I will consider everything you mentioned.

ManaSky - - 25 comments @ Dev Diary 2: Knowledge and Slinger

Slingers had historically long range and skilled ones were known to throw longer than archers could. But it's still early on and I might change their roles. I like the idea of a short-ranged javelin thrower. Thanks for the feedback!

Yes, most units. Only very basic (and weak) units won't require wealth to train. So the system for training units can be summed up like this:

Weakest units: consume food and might cost wood
Professional units: also requires wealth
Elite units: also requires metal

This means that you need a well-balanced economy to hire an army of elite units.

You currently need wealth to hire an army. Wealth can be generated in several ways in the final design; with trade and by researching technologies. However, in the current version you can harvest wealth by mining obsidian and gold. The only difference between these is that gold contains more wealth to harvest.

Obsidian is a throwback to an early version of the game, from when the game took place in the Neolithic epoch (when obsidian was a valuable trading material). However, since the game now mainly takes place in later Calcholitic or Bronze Age epochs, I might remove obsidian from the game.

Thanks for your feedback. The resources are currently food, wood, wealth and metal, plus knowledge generation. Elite units will require metal and this will be the rarest resources in the game. Reclaiming metal from corpses is a cool idea. :)
