Try a different render mode. The dx9 and dx10 modes use real light modeling and there aren't enough real light sources (IMHO) so everything is too dark - try object dynamic or static. Not as pretty, but not as dark either.

This is important so that quests don't get broken. I prefer the immersion factor of how STALKSOUP does it better though - you simply don't have the map transition show on your map at all - you must "learn" the way to those maps in-game before they appear.

Don't quickload for now - just go the normal menu and load and it works fine.

Interesting. I find that nighttime is too dark to see 2 feet in front of me in any mode except static lighting and the gamma / brightness settings don't seem to have any impact on any other mode either.
