Not often that I see a singleplayer total conversion mod. I know a lot of Resident Evil fans have lamented that no one is trying to make genuinely scary games anymore. With Amnesia: The Dark Descent, and now this, they're wrong - you just have to look around a little more.
The game is very scary, very creative, and adventurous. Having just beaten it, seen that there are multiple endings, a co-op mode, extra levels as another character, and numerous secrets in the game itself I hadn't known about, it's becoming clear - with the minor exception of the graphics being closer to 2001 (which honestly help the scariness!!) this game would have retailed for a full $60 back then.
Very, very well-done.
The mod is somewhat simple; it doesn't have an insane number of guns, unique objectives, etc. But I really like it that way. It's yet another experience you tailor to your own playing style, the way you would any Crysis level. The opening with the marines was a bit brute-force, but made for some nice action. I enjoyed the mod quite a bit.
