In an effort to stop people from impersonating me or hacking my accounts, I will set the story straight.

I, Jon Dominski, no longer act as a spokesman for the mod. For any official comment on the status or continuation of the project, please refer to cman2k or natedgreat on the official BlackMesaSource.com website.

The project is still very much alive and well and I would kindly ask for people to stop impersonating me or hacking my accounts. Nothing is gained from it anymore and it's becoming annoying.

Please stop, it's getting annoying.

There is obviously nothing we can say to make you believe we're alive, apart from the fact that we're alive. I also see that you've registered not too long ago on this lovely website and have successfully attacked Black Mesa's standing about a dozen times since you have arrived. Are you on a warpath with us and our work?

I generally see myself as a nice guy, willing to take a beating from just about anyone for anything. We, as development team, have taken ridicule, distaste, leaks, hackers, and a few communities full of nothing but "this is stupid, get something good", et cetera. We're still here, taking a beating and we're still working harder than most other development teams. We are not going to save face just to satisfy your personal ambitions to either drag us down after we were hacked and leaked or whether this is some kind of career move to drag media out from us.

I say this to all who have demanded media or updates out of us:

We will update the public when we feel we we've reached the next stage in our development. Until then, don't ask: because you're not going to get it. The next planned media update is not for a little while but it will be one of, if not the largest update we'll ever have.

Thank you for your time,
Black Mesa Public Relations
Making the Community a Safer place for all BM Developers

May the foolish turn away now, and lest the faithful reep in the rewards.

But no, in all due honestly we are working. We have plently of media to show off to the public, but we just don't want to. What we want to do is get the HUD up, the weapons in-game, the enemies fighting with near-final areas to show off. Any modification can show off the renders, the individual art pieces: but we want to show you how it all comes together.

Say whatever you like, turn away or even run away. But when we release our media and when we (once again) shower the community with lovely media only those who turn away will be in the dark corner.

Merry Christmas, and stop saying we're dead. If you want to say we're dead, say it on our public forums and we'll show you how dead we are.

This shouting match doesn't really need to happen. If we were a mod doing this for fame and fortune from the community, we would be releasing media every time we got a chance: thankfully, we're not. We're making this mod for ourselves because we feel that if we do it for anyone/anything but ourselves it will be for the wrong reasons.

Subsequently, the community support has been sensational: but we never entered into a contract where we had to release media to prove we were working.

Don't be expecting media from us for a while. Keep in the mind that the longer we work on this without breaking for a media release, the better and better the next one will be: won't it?

...from the MetLak attack earlier today. We found the exe file before it could do damage to Black Mesa: unfortunetly not all websites on the server were as fortunate. Either way, we are planning for an announcement soon.

We will update when we have the majority of our content in-game. The plan right now is to sit down, shut up and pour our hearts and souls out to this project.

And so far, it's working.

Forums.blackmesasource.com for the news release on the leak. We were, in fact, hacked and attacked by individual who wished to see our content. A weakness was exploited and access was gained. The content was downloaded and distributed. We have contained the leak and are presently increasing security to make sure this does not happen again.

That is all we're saying for now.

This was a podcast done with two level designers from Black Mesa. While Spencer should have been more specific and reposted this himself, it was posted and you can find the interview at the bottom of that release.

As said on SteamPowered, brought up by a community member:

It's not really copyright, specifically. It's keeping the line clear between community and commercial developer. "Source" has been tacked on to plenty of mod names before, but this mod has the potential to equal or even overtake retail release proliferation--especially since it's free.

So, Valve wants to make it very clear, in this case, that they were not the ones creating the mod. At least, that's how I see it.

Everyone has their role on the development team. I don't take the credit for Black Mesa, nor have I ever. It's been the team effort since day one. I helped put together this team which now is labeled as the best upcoming modification of 2005 and I don't think at any point do people say "omg Kalashnikov is so cool making Black Mesa Source". You almost never hear my name mentioned in conjunction with Black Mesa. People praise BMS, and everyone has their own opinions.

It's true I am not the greatest level designer, it's true I have others read over my news posts. Why? Because I want to make sure it's right. I didn't realize that checking with others on my work was so very bad? Gus, some members have problems with me because of my level design record of which I will say this officially: I have changed chapters over the time of development to make way for a far more talented level designer, RabidMonkey. Do you guys not like how Black Mesa Inbound has come out now? I manage skinning, texture art, ftp ops and hosting.

If developers have so much of a problem with me, then they would have said something to me rather than speak out to others. I find it relatively dispickable Gus that you would ever, ever think I'm trying to steal attention away from any other developer on BMS.

Garry, when I said massive advertising I meant sending out e-mails. I don't ever remember seeing a JB mod news bit, which is why I made the comments on you having the better advertising out there. You were more exposed and yes I don't understand the 'not a mod' either.

On the JB mod bit I spoke about, that was from the information I gathered from several sources around the community during the time of the incident and thereafter. That is what I have heard and understand.

I was expecting you guys to take it because of the beta-testing thing you guys put out while the voting was on. I was pumped nonetheless and congrats Argyll, I hope to see a release from you guys soon.

Big congratulations out to the top mods and the top upcoming. It feel in line somewhere in the region I expected, but Dystopia beat my fourth I estimated for them, so great job Teddy and the team. Garry's Mod, hands down, was going to win. Its massive success has stretched straight across the board in terms of playability and replayability: both of which are critical factors in many popular mods. A congrats goes out to Garry Newman: another medal to add to his collection (or which some will call his ego).

The Top Genre, again I agree with most of them. The Tetris was weird, but come on now folks: for a community which registered Red Orchestra as a Sports Mod, we needed some more irrational, uncomprehendable and outrageous actions to keep it normal for ModDB. Once again, congrats. A big big congrats goes out to Insurgency and Fortress Forever, the two other Half-Life 2 mods that made it into the Best Upcoming lineup. I was personally betting that Insurgency would have taken Best Mod, beating us out, but when they scored third I was shocked.

Anyways, a great run around this time and I'm pumped we got into the Best Upcoming.

No media comes to those who whine and complain,
Good media comes to those who sit in the rain,
Our media comes when WE DAMN WELL FEEL LIKE RELEASING IT!

Thank you,
Black Mesa Administration.

It is coming, just a tad late. Downtime has had some influence, but we're just trying to make it up to the quality we adhere to with our levels and shots. Please stand by.
