<!-- P { margin-bottom: 0.08in; } --> On the weekends at university I sometimes get bored. I have spent some time looking through Half Life 2 mods and stumbled across Weekday Warrior, a short mod with more story than action. But I like story in a mod, that is what makes a mod stand out when it is based in an action/shooter game is story. Okay, I'll be honest; the story isn't quite that deep. But it was a fun mod, after getting around the controls.

This was the first mod I played for HL2 where the camera was not first-person. I found myself getting frustrated at it not because the design was bad, but because I was not used to it. After I got used to the controls and camera layout, I began to enjoy this mod.

The story is that you (someone who works in a boring office all day) are once again pulled into the dull routine of your job. You clock in, you slack off, you clock out. I think the narration stated that you work in a software company...but don't quote me on that. Anyway, apparently you somehow get an encoded message and have to decode it.

I'm not going to go any farther into the story because it is quite short (2-3 hours perhaps...I wasn't keeping track). If I did go further into the story then I would spoil too much and the authors might try to gut me for it.

Weekday Warrior is a fun little mod to play the first time around, but it doesn't quite have any longevity for repeat play-throughs. Some things do seem to change (such as the stapler puzzle, I think they were in different places in my second play-through), but as far as I know there is not any other paths you can take.

For a mod which was created in only 6 months, by a group of students, I have to say that I REALLY hope they all got an A on the project if it was graded. The environment, characters, voice acting (and it is not bad at all), and story all meld together into a very fun, and different experience for Half Life 2. At the very least you should try it out to see the work the creators put into it. The only reason you would be disappointed is if you only buy video games to play online.
In which case: why are you reading this? Go back to playing Halo on your PS2 or whatever...PC modders here...

Thanks for reading!
