...speed painting!

My last blog had the title "Just another Speed Painting", but this has changed now. It has changed into "First award winning Speed Painting", as it has been chosen by TwistedRussian for "Picture of the Week: 26th April - 3rd May".

"Let me just start off by saying that picking one image to represent the week is very difficult. The amount of quality artwork that I get presented with is staggering, and if I had the money I would give points to everyone who had a go!

So from a crop of stunning pictures why did I pick this one? The image is constructed well with great composition and interaction of the elements. The viewers eyes are lead around the image in a sophisticated manner, taking in all the beautiful and well realised elements.

The foreground is presented in such a way that we feel that we are getting a glimpse into some secret secluded garden, and I feel this lends incredible depth to the image. The wall in the background shatters any perceptions that this is a simple outdoor scene and the viewers mind races with questions as to the gardens purpose and locations. With these simple interactions of the foreground, mid ground and background *814200 has managed to craft in me an insatiable desire to find out more about the body of water.

The textures created here work well to beef out the image, lending to it's solidity and wholeness. The actual use of brushes and brushstrokes helps lend even more life and activity to the image. From the breathtaking spray to the remarkable surface of the rock and foliage. The water here gets particular mention because it's shown with such effortless grace and fluidity but still possessing the same wholeness as most objects in this image.

The last two factors to be tackled are amongst the most important. The wholeness created by the objects would have seemed heavy or even overbearing if it were not for the stunning use of light, it's ethereal rays uniting the image and giving immeasurable life to the composition. Colour too has been used in an exceptional way helping to unite the image further.

I could go on analysing this image all day, no joke. From it's nuances to the fantastic use of light. It's a staggering achievement for a speed paint. I just wish that I could be in there. Sitting on that rock. "

I've won 100 deviantArt Points (that's an unbelieveable worth of 1$), which isn't much of course, but I don't really care about the points, instead it means a lot to me, because it's the first time I've won anything with creating art and I will probably always remember that one. Everyone starts out small, huh? ;)

stay tuned~
