You should remake companions (not "The Companions") as followers from the Elder Scrolls series, like:
Serana
Aela the Huntress (Skyrim)
Lydia (Skyrim)
Mjoll the Lioness.
Cicero.
Rayya.
Jordis the Sword-Maiden
And maybe some more.

its because of your settings, im guessing you're playing on low.... just go to the warband settings while running and up your texture on video options..
