We tried Cherokee and Nginx. We spent about 2 weeks debugging odd XML/SSL issues with Cherokee, aswell as a number of other issues.

In the end, we would have preferred to use Cherokee over nginx due to its ease of configuration, supposed better performance, soft restart abilities and nifty admin UI, however the bugs we encountered with it forced us to go with nginx - which to it's credit, had 0 bugs, and was quite simple to deploy!

I apologise for the error you received Heaney - there were some glitches that appeared about an hour ago which have been corrected now. If you get an error after submitting an article you can always try to hit reload to re-submit the data which should work.

We currently use a CDN operated by Akamai, however it is "sponsored" by our Advertising partner.

We used to operate our own Geo-CDN out of Australia, the US & EU - which we are looking at re-visiting due to the quality of the current video CDN's advertising not being what we are happy with.

Greg - - 104 comments @ Calling ISP's and Filehosts

ModDB house our own files internally. We weren't "reliant" on Filefront for file hosting, so we havent had to run around archiving the ~1TB of data we had hosted with them - it was a "mirror" afterall, not our primary storage site.

Having said that, about 80% of our file downloads went via them - which equates to around 30-40TB a month, or ~120Mbps.

ModDB is in the process of provisioning new fileservers over the coming weeks to help cater for the loss of file serving bandwidth.

Keep an eye on the ModDB Official Blog for more soon.

I have just made some further changes.

Video and Audio processing is back online.
Image display has been fixed.

Please note that on Saturday morning we will be installing three new front end web / media servers, you may notice some brief interruptions when these are brought online.

Actually, it is imperative you should be running Adobe Flash Player version 9.0.124.0. Anything earlier than this and there are major security holes / vulnerabilities.

PM's were needed over forums so that modDB Staff could better communicate with mod teams, and visa versa.

We have had mods and articles sitting in our "waiting" queue for weeks because people have not responded to their emails. Having an in-house PM system allows us to communicate with mod teams without having to rely on 3rd party email systems, problems, spam filters etc.

I think a direct link to "Find" a mod would be great. We'll see if we can include that in V4.1. I've added it as a feature request in our internal bug tracking system
