Having worked as a farmer and woodcutter for most of my life i became determined to do something that would leave my mark after i was gone. Since then i got back to studies, and i have now a master degree in Electrotecnical Engineering as well as a degree on Electromechanical Engineering. On my free time i like playing and so i became interested in creating my own games or, in the shorter term, modding games to get something closer to what i would like games to be.
Pretty much i've always wondered how it would be like if psychic units had the ability to do regular ranged attacks based on psychic powers, similarly to the powerful melee attacks they do in close combat. The results seem interesting although the accuracy of the psyker ranged attacks are not great.
I don't understand what happened there, and what are those big chunks of meat at the end?
The big chunks of meat are a left over from another experiment.
As to what happened there was an experiment with using psychic ranged attacks instead of a laspistol (similar to their abilities but used as a weapon instead).

Currently is a replacement for the laspistol but the objective would be to code it through OE so it was upgradable from the laspistol as a way to either diversify psykers or to create hardened battle psykers.
Wouldn't it be possible to make a weapon group for the laspistol and psychic attacks? Because in my opinion this isn't really an upgrade...
Ranged groups work well on some units like obliterators but not so much with other units. Depending on range and reload time the weapon is used and besides that there isn't much control you can make on the weapons being fired. It would also create some issues visually since using psychic attacks requires the psyker to have no visible weapon (because i choose to so it looks better) and the firing of the laspistol would require it to be visible.
Also the upgrade aspect is mostly to allow the possibility to implement the unit in several ways, with a fully psychic role or with the use of a laspistol. Also if used in a similar way to psychic attacks in DoW2, it would seriously be an upgrade from simply firing a laspistol although i understand your point of view.
Ahh sure. It was my fault.
I just meant it would be strange to have psychic attacks in the weapon upgrade menu. But of course you can do another implementation.
So I would prefer a toggled ability to switch weapons or like you suggested different units for each.
